A Spanish wedding for Andre and Maitina Borromeo

C‘EST CEBU - Honey Jarque Loop -
Shortly after good-looking young executive Andre Borromeo proposed marriage and a life of togetherness enveloped with love to childhood friend, photographer and ramp model Maitina del Gallego, she immediately got on with the wedding plans.

Maitina knew exactly what she wanted. One thing was certain. It was to be an ultra simple yet elegant affair. No frills. Nothing outlandish or extravagant. It was meant to be a celebration of love, shared with family and friends who have enriched their lives. And yes, a touch of Spanish influence throughout the festivities.

At precisely the stroke of six in the evening, the entourage made their way to the impressive altar of the imposing Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral of the Most Holy Name of Jesus. It was artistically decorated with white chrysanthemums and mums on pedestals accented with white tulle abanicos, a design by the bride and executed by Pinky Chang of Pink Flora.

Maitina was beautiful, beaming and radiant in an A-line mikado silk and illusion tulle gown accentuated with chantilly lace, a masterpiece by the highly-esteemed and much-revered fashion designer Philip Rodriguez. The veil with lace edging was held in place by a Spanish peineta, a gift from Pilar Escaño.

Sisters Marianne and Luisa were maids of honor. Younger siblings Martha, Mona Lisa and Michelle were bridesmaids. All five lovely sisters even looked lovelier in their ivory flamenco-inspired gowns by trendy couturier Jun Escario.

Chancing upon the groom’s mom Marivic Rodriguez Borromeo who, months prior to the affair, was deep into assisting in the preparations, we learned that Cristina Hunter, one of Maitina’s aunts and a resident of North Carolina who flew in for the occasion, was responsible for the bouquets of the bride and her entourage.

The groom chose a piña barong tagalog by Infini and his brothers Paolo Martin and Marco Gabriel were best men.

On behalf of His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, the most Reverend Julito Cortes D.D. officiated the romantic union which was witnessed by the bride’s godfathers Antonio Brias and Jaime Ugarte, her aunts Cynthia Locsin and Paz Daarol, her uncle Ramon del Gallego, the groom’s godmother Cora Tanjuatco and his favorite aunts Angela Calero, Luisa Diego and Maria Corazon Antigua. The groom’s eldest brother Jose Daniel, his uncle Francisco Borromeo and close friend Joseph Li completed the line for principal sponsors.

Reception followed at the grand ballroom of the Casino Español de Cebu where guests nibbled on queso manchego, jamon serrano and a delectable assortment of Spanish picas.

They likewise raved about the sumptuous paella that was cooked to perfection. And little did they wonder for cooks from the popular restaurant "Las Paellas" of Manila were flown in just for the occasion, a gift from owner Raton del Gallego to the newlyweds.

Cousins Bernadette and Annete Gallego lovingly baked the much-complimented three-tiered fondant pound cake.

To Andre and Maitina, here’s wishing you a life of togetherness, continue to be happy and may you both enjoy each other’s company for many many years to come.
