Northwest brings Cebu closer to Japan, the US
June 27, 2001 | 12:00am
Cebu’s much-admired and often-duplicated beautifully landscaped tropical garden overlooking its own all encompassing lagoon of Plantation Bay was the perfect setting for the Hawaiian Luau hosted by Laurie Lofgren, Northwest Airlines general manager for the Philippines, Guam and Micronesia, to honor its top producers from the Visayas and Mindanao for 2000.
The consistent top awardee was again Rajah Tours/Destination Specialists, with Suzette Gabutina and Mary Ann Tabucanon very proud to receive the citation.
Plaques of appreciation were handed out by general manager Gina Campos, and Northwest district manager-Vismin Cherry Callelero to Fortune Travel’s Aida Uy, Delmar Travel’s Marilou Ordoñez, Leisure Travel’s Sheila Colmenares, Orientwind Travel’s Dumaguete-based Macrina Fuentes and House of Travel’s out-of-towner from Davao Jennifer Floriendo.
Gary Agarwal, sales manager for the Philippines, Guam and Micronesia, assisted by business development manager Mark Abastillas, and marketing communications manager Candy Jacinto Ochoa were likewise present to acknowledge more awardees such as Titan Travel’s Karen Tan, Lito Tan of Davao’s CM Travel and Carlos Castells of Amigo Travel of Iloilo.
Special prize for the the most original costume went to Carlos Castells, whose grass skirt, made from coconut strips, got everyone’s attention and approval, while best in costume was Aida Uy, who came dressed in the most colorful authentic get up.
A much welcome disclosure by Lofgren is the ongoing "made in heaven" partnership with Cebu Pacific Airways, wherein, among the many benefits, offers an ideal flight connection from Cebu to the USA and Canada via Japan 21 times a week. With this new service, travelers originating from the island will no longer have to stay overnight in the capital city or even change airport terminals during their brief Manila stopover.
Northwest proposes a wider choice of destinations in Japan and no less than 250 cities in North America. And for travelers who avail of this service until Aug. 30 can earn 5,000 bonus miles whenever they fly world business class or 2,000 bonus miles when traveling economy class.
Do I see a line forming? Bon voyage.
