MANILA, Philippines — Miss Universe 205 Pia Wurtzbach adds another feather to her cap: New York City Marathon finisher!

On Instagram, Pia announced her latest feat, calling it as “probably the best run” of her life.

“I did it! We did it!” she began.

“The NYC Marathon wasn’t a race, it was an experience. A life lesson. Probably the best run of my life. I saw and felt so much. I AM SO HAPPY and grateful, inspired, humbled, and emotional… lahat na!”

Running the marathon, she said, has always been in her bucket list.

“This medal represents how important it is that we keep the promises we make to ourselves. To me, it was running because I wanted a new challenge, a new discipline — to be healthier & to step out of my comfort zone, to see how far I can go.”

Like her Miss Universe journey, joining the marathon wasn’t a walk in the park.

“I knew it would take time and dedication to achieve it but I wanted to stick to that promise no matter where life or work pulled me. Over the years, I got used to being at the service of others and most of my decisions revolved around work or pleasing others. This time, I stuck by running a marathon for me. This was my way of taking care of myself. And now, it has enriched my life so much because it has put me in a better place, so I feel recharged & energized to be of service to others.”

She revealed her secrets to successfully finishing the race: running with friends or having a support group, and training for long hours every day.

“Thank you to my family & friends who tracked me & cheered for me. Especially for patiently waiting long hours as I trained everyday. And of course my coach! He’s the best! Gabb @gabbrosario thank you for pushing me and preparing me for this day! Sobrang patient niya sakin at sa progress ko.”

Pia also tagged fiancé Jeremy Jauncey, who has been supporting her new passion since day one.

“I’m grateful for all the support and cheering on ground and online. I saw your signages, your messages, and posts — kahit sobra yung kaba ko and yung pagod 5 hours in, lumalakas loob ko.”

In a statement sent to Philstar.com, Pia bared that the right apparel, particularly a proper-fitting underwear, is also key to one’s success and confidence.

“There were a lot of times during fittings at work where I was told I was not wearing the right panties for my body type. I mean, they’re just panties! You put it on, and just go on with your day!”

Pia revealed one of her best realizations: “This one time, I was told, ‘Girl, why are you wearing those panties? That does not complement your body at all.’ Of course, I was surprised because I learned there were other silhouettes that can really make a difference.”

With a natural hourglass figure, Pia was told it was better to wear high-leg or bikini panties. And so she did, and she actually felt different when she got used to it.

“Imagine, for years I didn’t really care much about this one thing that I wear on a daily basis.”

When she managed to make the change, suddenly she felt more in tune with her body. “There’s a big difference when what you’re wearing fits so perfectly that you become less conscious about how others look at you, because you’ll be comfortable in your own skin.”

These days, Pia feels more confident as she has found the perfect panties for herself, and hopefully other women can follow suit.

“It was Avon who made the difference in what I feel,” said the beauty queen. “Not only do they have the right silhouette — each one is also made with quality materials that does not wear-and-tear easily.” Avon offers up to seven panty silhouettes for every shape and size, helping more women find the best one for their body type. All seven silhouettes include hi-legs, bikinis, hipsters, mini’s, maxi’s, full briefs.

“I think my advice for all other queens reading is that YOU don’t need to adjust to your underwear, it should be the other way around! Because if one thing isn’t working for you, the next step should be changing it to what you have and need. It should be like that in all aspects.”

Pia promised to share her NYC marathon preparations from start to finish line.

“Please watch out for my reel that documents my journey from training to the finish line…and pwede ko na ring sabihin ngayon: Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach from the Philippines, proudly a NYC marathon finisher.”
