Ralph Lauren bares Team USA uniforms for Beijing Olympics ceremony
MANILA, Philippines — American fashion designer Ralph Lauren unveiled chic navy-blue and red athleisure designs for Team USA for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics opening ceremony today.
The American fashion giant also designed casual wear for the Olympic Village.
It's noteworthy that the winter clothes are state-of-the-art, with special technology in its fabrics.
Aja Evans, two-time Olympic bobsledder and Ralph Lauren ambassador, described the features of the designer pieces.
"What's really cool about the jacket is the intelligent insulation technology. So instead of needing like warmth, when we go outside it warms us up, and when we go inside, it keeps us cool and maintain our body heat," she shared in a YouTube video.
The look includes an anorak, featuring Intelligent insulation technology, a mid-layer jacket, pants, gloves and boots — all including recycled polyester fiber made with post-consumer plastic bottles. Each item in the uniform is manufactured in the United States.
Ralph Lauren also provided boots in red and white colorways. The rest of the uniform is available in red, white and blue as well.
Ralph Lauren partnered with textile innovation company, Skyscrape, to bring the technology to market that brings sustainability to the forefront. With the Intelligent Insulation, the fabric adapts to changes in air temperature around the wearer without the use of battery-powered or “wired” technology. Instead, it expands, creating a layer of insulation at different rates in response to temperature changes.
The goal with the tech is to extend the the lifespan and use of a garment that might otherwise be appropriate for only a short, seasonal time-period.
The 2022 Olympic Games are scheduled for February 4 through February 20. The Opening Ceremony will take place February 4 at Beijing National Stadium
