WATCH: Kris Aquino recalls a memory that made her dad ‘freak out’

MANILA, Philippines — During her recent makeup line launch, multimedia personality Kris Aquino shared that when thinking for names for her lipsticks and eyebrow makeup shades, she thought that the names should all start with the letter “L.”

Thus, her first and new cosmetics collection for Filipino brand Ever Bilena bear the names Life, Love, Laugh, Lucky, and Loyal.

According to her, the brand has been running out of “L” words as names for upcoming shades, so she suggested to use Filipino “L” words instead.

Among the Filipino words that came to her mind was the Filipino term for "lust."

“Ay, gusto ko ‘yung Filipino word next, lalo na for Valentine’s!” she said of the word, to which the brand’s representatives said “No!”

“Okay, sorry, but cute, ‘di ba?” Kris said. “Ay, ‘di ba cute?”

Other people, she said, also suggested other Filipino words such as “landi” and “lambing.”

“Sabi ko lang sometimes, you have to be tongue-in-cheek,” she explained on why she thought of the word.

'Dad was freaking out'

During an interview with Philstar.com at the launch, Kris revealed that she is the only one in the family that loves cosmetics. Not even her mom, the late Pres. Corazon Aquino, or her sisters share the same fondness for makeup.

"Remember that I was the baby of the family," Kris noted.

According to her, living in the US changed her attitude toward makeup because in the US, full-face makeup is the norm.

“That’s what I was exposed to when I was entering the tweener years,” Kris reminisced. “We lived there from the time when I was nine until when I was 12 and at 12 years old, the girls were already using eyeliner and mascara.”

The actress and TV host also remembered how her dad, the late Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., used to “freak out” to see her play with makeup at such a young age.

“But my mom would tell him, ‘We’re living here. That’s the way they go about it. You have to allow her’,” Kris said.

At that time, the late ‘80s, Kris recalled that Christian Dior was so “in,” as well as colored mascaras, so she had them in wild colors like blue and purple.

“That’s how the love started and because maarte lang talaga ‘ko and enjoy talaga ako sa makeup and it’s just so nakaka-happy!”

She said she never took a course or a workshop on makeup, and everything she knows is from being made up every day of her life— from the time she had a regular show when her firstborn, Josh, was only months old, until today that he just turned 23.

“You learn by observing and I have the privilege of being made up by all the very best!”

Shout out to BTS

During the launch, Kris managed to even mention the Korean pop group she is following, BTS.

According to her, her poreless complexion is thanks to DNA, which is also the title of one of BTS’ hits.

“DNA, I’m sorry! To quote BTS. Genetics ‘to!” she exclaimed.

She said, she inherited her skin from her grandmothers from both sides of her parents who both had beautiful skin.
