MANILA, Philippines — Chase away the rain clouds with outfits that are fun and bright!

Tommy Esguerra and Kaila Estrada, models and two of the new ambassadors of SMYTH, SM Youth’s new sub-line, share tips to bring more fun to millennial fashion.

“With today’s trends, there’s more room to experiment – with prints, patterns and styles. I especially love to mix and match inners and outers,” shares Tommy.  “The differing prints may feel completely opposite, but believe me they work!”

The go-to style for this young “fashion chameleon” when it comes to brightening up his mood is layering on pieces with different prints such as camouflage jackets and tropical shirts on top of casual tees. “Even if we live in a tropical country, people shouldn’t be afraid to layer, because there’s a great selection of pieces that are breathable and light. They don’t weigh you down and don’t add extra heat.”

For 21-year-old Kaila Estrada, the daughter of John Estrada and Janice de Belen, you don’t have to let the gloomy weather dampen your spirits or your style. “Fashion shouldn’t be too serious. Feel free to explore your own personal style,” she says.

Defining her own style as “easy” and “androgynous,” Kaila loves to experiment with different looks. “I’m a jeans, white crop top and denim jacket kind of girl, but I enjoy playing with fashion, especially now with the resurgence of retro. Today’s fashion is all about bringing back the iconic styles of the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s, but in a more evolved form. Also, I love the trend of athleisure (athletic leisure wear). They’re chic, yet comfortable for any day.”

Tommy gives another tip to beating the rainy day blues: “An easy way to instantly brighten up your outfit is to play with prints and color. If you’re a little shy or hesitant, start with shirts that have small, fun prints.”

Tommy admits that he has not always been a confident model. “When I was growing up, I would sometimes feel insecure about how I looked. But there came I day that I just decided that I was tired of being controlled by my emotions and what others think of me, so I just finally did me. When it comes to fashion, I (subscribe) to the philosophy of ‘wear it, flaunt it and be you’!”
