Nars paints Fashion Week
Brushed brows, radiant skin, masculine beauty rule the runway
Looks could kill at Alexander Wang
The Wang girls sported really dark eyeliner, which looked lived-in and kind of dangerous — perfect for an equally dark collection. Wang, known for a tendency towards athleisure, took the sexy route with daring and baring silhouttes.
The makeup, created by Nars’ Diane Kendal, was “inspired by a woman who is full of confidence. She’s the woman who walks into a room and is instantly noticed. She’s not afraid of anything.” In fact, we’re all a little bit afraid of her.
Kendal used Via Veneto Larger Than Life Eyeliner, Carpates Eyeliner Stylo, Black Moon Velvet Liner, and Audacious Mascara for the eyes, and just a wash of trusty old Rosebud Salve on the lips.
Loud pouts at Novis
Novis’ autumn/winter 2017 collection offers a new take on color blocking (with more “blocks”), dark florals (paired with checks and plaid) and texture (think wide tassle-like details cascading from the ribs down). Nars complements Novis’ autumn/winter 2017 collection with statement makeup, characterized by bold, perfect lips. “This season’s collection centers on the Novis girl in bold, vibrant colors. Jordana wanted statement lips featuring a decadent matte crimson and rich, satiny magenta, alongside polished skin and a subtle smoky eye,” says Uzo, Nars international lead makeup stylist. Nars Audacious lipsticks in Janet and Carmen were used to create impactful lips, while Nars Skin Oil-Free Aqua Gel Moisturizer and Nars Skin Luminous Moisture Cream kept the face dewy and polished.
Nude rules at Phillip Lim
Phillip Lim’s mostly black-and-white fall collection (interjected with streaks of vivid blue and subtle pink), called for makeup that’s at once understated and strong. To keep from drowning the girls in all those neutrals, Francelle Daly of Nars Cosmetics opted for a nude palette. “My inspiration for the look was to capture the natural glow and radiance of all women,” she says.
The face is given a natural warmth and radiance with Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer and Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder. The eyes — which had to pop against the black and white collection — were accentuated with Nars Audacious Mascara, and framed with strong brows using Brow Perfector and Brow Gel.
Makeup illuminates at Delpozo
“The makeup look was inspired by the many textures featured in the collection,” says Nars makeup artist Monica Marmo. Models’ heads were wrapped in cashmere knit hoods, some bedazzled with sequins, while wearing structured silhouettes drawn from Swiss architect and sculptor Max Bill’s creations.
As the shapes are organic, so is the makeup. To illuminate the face, Marmo used Nars Skin Luminous Moisture Cream, Total Replenishing Eye Cream, Radiance Primer, Soft Matte Complete Concealer, Copacabana Illuminator, and Copacabana Multiple — that’s a lot of glow.
Brows are natural and brushed with Oural Brow Gel. Lips are emphansized with Halong Bay Precision Lip Liner (new for fall 2017; for now, you can try Barbara Audacious Lipstick).
Handsome women at Creatures of the Wind
The latest Creatures collection was decidedly vintage and, individually, pretty feminine. Conservative silhouettes were accessorized with masculine footwear — and punctuated with barely there grooming.
“This season’s look has a very handsome kind of masculine beauty. The shape of the brows is a modern take on Marlene Dietrich’s signature look,” sas Mark Carrasquillo of Nars. With the brows as the look’s anchor, Carrasquillo used Bali Matte Eyeshadow and Coconut Grove Matte Eyeshadow to fill, and Audacious Mascara to buff it all out and make it look natural.
Skin was kept natural with Luminous Moisture Cream, Aqua Gel Luminous Oil-Free Moisturizer, Total Replenishing Eye Cream, and Soft Matte Complete Concealer.
