From day to night: Solenn Heussaff's step-by-step makeup guide

Solenn Heussaff showing the girls how its done at her makeup workshop featuring her favorite makeup brand, the L'Oreal Paris Makeup.

MANILA, Philippines -  On Tuesday, July 12, Solenn Heussaff conducted her own makeup workshop featuring her favorite makeup brand, the L'Oreal Paris Makeup. Solenn, a French-Filipina multi-hyphenate had taken formal lessons on fashion design, body painting and makeup in Paris, which makes her well aware of the palettes and brushes.

So what's the first thing we all have to know when it comes to the art of makeup? Solenn says you need to find your "true match."

"I studied makeup in Paris for a year and a half and went to two different schools and what I learned is that, it is really important to have good products to work with, especially because you are applying it on your skin everyday," said Solenn.

So you see, it's not about the numerous brushes on your makeup kit or that too many shades of foundation stashed on your cabinet. Save yourself from throwing all your cash on too many products. Find the right match and your good to go.

To show that you do not need too much to get your face all prepped up from day to night, Solenn did a live makeup tutorial.

During the workshop, she featured a day look which she describes as something you can wear to the office and the night look which according to her is perfect for cocktail hours.

The fun part is, you can go from your day makeup to night makeup in just a few minutes!

Go straight from work to a girls' night out or a hot date with these simple tips:

For Day Look

STEP 1: Primer

"What I love about primer is it actually minimizes your pores. And it also makes your makeup longer lasting. It is important even if some people tends to forget about it. It also smoothens out your skin so foundation would be easier to apply. You actually do not need much and you can apply it on certain areas lang, like on T-zone or parts where your pores are visible." said Solenn.

STEP 2: Foundation

"In choosing your foundation, you have to be careful. We tend to have a lighter face than the body so make sure to choose the right shade. You can test it on your jaw line. Again, you do not need to put too much foundation on your skin. Make sure to put some on your neck as well so it would not look like you just put on a mask," the actress-model said.

Solenn recommends using your own fingers so the foundation would warm up and would be spread evenly.

STEP 3: Concealer

"For concealer you can match your skin tone or go half a shade lighter than your skin tone. Do it with your T-zone and spread it towards the nostril and your below your eye, sa creases. You can also cover the blemishes by dabbing a bit of concealer until they are fully covered. Dab lang so you would not mess with the foundation you just put," said Solenn.

STEP 4: Setting Powder

"For setting powder, use your skin tone or a powder than is one tone darker. When putting powder you have to remember that you should not press it too hard. Do not swipe it. Set the center part first and then the laughing lines, sa side ng nose," said the actress-model.

Solenn said we need to set the foundation and concealer because we are in a warm country.

STEP 5: Eye Shadow

"For day look have an eyeshadow with pigment that is not too strong. I usually use three different colors. I use light brown and peaches and then I contour the side of the eye with darker colors (all in the same palette). No blue and green!," said Solenn.

For the eye shadow, the Kapuso actress recommends L'Oréal La Palette Nude in Rose.

Tips:

For the base: Light shade (peach or light brown); put it all over the crease.

For the second shade: Something shimmery, but not glittery to give volume; put it at the center of the eyelid and under the eyebrows for lift.

For last shade: Dark grey; put it on eye lash line and side of the eye to emphasize crease line.

STEP 5: Eye Liner

Not all girls might not know this, but you can actually set your eyeliner. "Black liner defines your eye a little bit more. This is tricky, but you have to set everything that's wet with something that is dry. So after putting eyeliner, you have to set it with a dark eye shadow of any color from the palette that you used," said Solenn.

For the day look just put thin lines.

STEP 6: Eyebrow pencil and Mascara

"For eyebrow pencil go for something that matches your hair color."  Solenn recommends the innovative 2-in-1 brow chisel which has a brush and a tip that can be used to outline and fill the brows efficiently without having to put too much effort. Start from outside to inner. Don't forget to brush your brows up!

For mascara, simply work it like a toothbrush.

STEP 7: Blush On

"I usually use two tones. The orange first then the pink. The orange, you only put it sa apple ng cheeks and then the pink one choose something na may shimmer," she said.

STEP 8: Lipstick

Tip: Start with the cupid's bow

For Night Look

For the night look, you do not have to remove everything and start from scratch. Solenn's day look can take you to your evening date in few minutes. Here's how

STEP 1: Contour

Tip: You do not need a contour stick. You can use a pencil concealer that is two shades darker that your skin tone. Draw lines on your hairline, cheekbone and jawline then BLEND it!

STEP 2: Two Way Cake

L'Oreal's True Match 2-Way Powder Foundation can provide a longer lasting coverage without dehydrating your skin.

STEP 3: Do the Cat's Eye

No need to erase your "day liner." Just make it thicker and enhance it. Don't forget to put that wing for extra sass!

STEP 4: Smoky Eyes

For the smoky eyes fit for that evening affair, use the same techniques you used for the day look. Only this time, choose really darkest shade of palette.

STEP 5: Lipstick

Since your eyes are heavy on makeup already, go for nude lipsticks.
