DEAR RISSA,
I’m a mom like you. My baby is teething and is constantly biting everything, especially my necklace and pendant whenever I carry her. I’ve stopped wearing them, but I love accessories, my outfit doesn’t feel complete without them. What’s a fashionable solution to this?
CHICA
I love your attitude — yes, you can still be fashionable even if you’re a new mom! It’s just a matter of finding the right accessories safe for your baby. Gold and silver jewelry, and even trendy accessories, are a no-no. Sharp edges and possibly toxic materials not meant to be put in the mouth pose harm to children. I’m happy to recommend homegrown brand Chunky Chewelries, which are fashionable teething necklaces safe for babies. These teeth- and gum-friendly BPA-free beads come in almost all colors and make great statement necklaces to punctuate your outfit — without harming your teething baby! I didn’t know about Chunky Chewelries with my first daughter, but I’m glad I discovered them in time for my second one. I recommend the all-white one; I’m very happy with mine because it goes with every outfit and will be perfect for the bright fun colors of summer. Other women like layering their different colored Chewelries, too! Fans of the brand include moms like Rica Peralejo, Patty Laurel, and Andi Manzano. You can find them on Instagram @ChunkyChewelries and email them at chunkychewelries@gmail.com.

Making old outfits look new again
DEAR LUCY,
How can I make an outfit look new? And what should I splurge on in terms of clothing items?
VICKY
Great jewelry can quickly update an outfit. Be tasteful about it, keeping in mind if you are wearing it during the day or night. Nothing too sparkly in the morning, choose instead bold pieces that come in a matte finish. For evening, you can get away with more.
When it comes to splurging, my personal general rule is not to splurge on anything too trendy. In fact, there is no need to conform to trends. Fashion can simply be about being true to yourself. Invest in timeless pieces: a very well-made dress, high heels (retire your favorite pair if they become so worn-out already, only rubber shoes look good even when worn-out), a travel coat, real jewelry, nice, sturdy luggage, a beautiful structured tote, and elegant minaudières. Better to purchase only a few pieces each year than to buy so many of disposable quality.
