Delving deep into the wonders of the sea with Tim Tam Ong
MANILA, Philippines - Jewelry designer Tim Tam Ong transforms her love for the sea to majestic jewelry pieces as she continues to create a world of modern femininity with elements of old world charm.
As a woman who is always in search for beauty in the most unexpected things, Tim Tam found a sense of peace in the sea's turbulent waves and found charm in its changing colors, which is why she created her latest collection, PRISM.
For the collection, fine gemstones sourced from her most favorite destinations around the world are crafted against the framework of silver and gold. The unique stones come in unusual colors: sapphires, topaz, tourmalines, rubies and quartz, among others.
Through the craftsmanship of heavy metalwork and intricate gem setting, the sea's flora and fauna are transformed into, for example, a joyous ring of peridot and amethyst, which resembles a flower in full bloom, or a mysterious set of drop earrings, whose stones recall the incandescent scales of exotic fish.
As a young jeweler who believes that each individual is different, Tim Tam Ong creates each piece as if someone in particular is fated to have it.
"My jewelry is as unique as finger print. I want that individual to have a sense of ownership. Kasi me, I feel like I don't want to have somebody who has the same piece. I consider my customers as people like me. Each individual is different and I feel like my jewelry is just like that," Ong explains to Philstar.com during the media launch of her PRISM collection.
"It can be a challenge because sometimes I only find one stone of a certain kind—but I like it that way," she adds.
