DEAR LUCY,
I have three beauty problems: dandruff; how to wear a metallic belt; and how to make my over-50-year-old mom look sleek, but still sexy for a nice party (she is still very fit but is always covered up). What part of her body should she bare still?

LEILA,
If you go to Healthy Options, you will find that they carry many brands of anti-dandruff shampoo. I did a quick roundup among people I know with the same problem and their favorites are the brands Jasön Dandruff Relief and Avalon Organics. Unlike other dandruff shampoos, these brands work well in curbing dandruff without drying hair in the process. What you can also do is apply conditioner first (but not on the scalp) and then massage the dandruff shampoo well onto the scalp. This way your hair remains well moisturized and will not stick out at the ends like a broom.
Regarding metallic belts, I love how they can add a modern touch to any outfit. I think they shine best when used with minimalist ensembles, especially those with sharp silhouettes.
For your over-50-year-old mom who is still fit (good for her) maybe a tunic dress but with a high slit that sometimes allows a leg to peek discreetly, depending on how she moves?). If this is the route she is willing to take, be sure to add a gentle sheen with moisturizing lotion (allow to dry thoroughly before slipping into her dress) or a strategic swipe of Benefit’s legendary Bathina.

Trendy, pretty nails at your fingertips!
DEAR RISSA,
I want to try nail art but can’t seem to commit myself to spend for it. I don’t know how to do those fancy designs so I will have to go to a nail salon to have it done. I’m not sure if it’s something I’ll like. I rarely wear polish, and when I do, I stick to neutrals.
— THESA
DEAR THESA,
Like makeup, nail polish is something you can easily try because if you don’t like it, you can always wipe it off — unlike hair color, which is more permanent. I love that you want to level up your nail polish routine. When you experiment, it helps you discover what you like and what works for you.
Since you aren’t really used to wearing polish, it’s best to ease yourself into trends slowly. Before jumping into nail art, try wearing colored polish next time you have your nails done. If red or pinks seem too bold for you, try pretty pastels or iridescent hues. Try Sally Hansen Pearl Crush. This collection of special-effect nail polish features a shimmery, iridescent finish. It also contains pretty faceted glitter particles, which give a crushed pearl look. It’s like wearing jewelry on your fingertips. My favorite is the shade called Mer-tint, a seafoam green that gives a sheer hint of color with pearls sitting on a sea-inspired shimmer.
