MANILA,Philippines - They came, they saw and they slayed. Fresh and seasoned designers came together to set the catwalk on fire for the 2nd Manila Fashion Festival (MFF) on March 19 to March 22.
In the bi-annual Manila Fashion Festival, the designers exhibited their talents in showcasing the season’s latest trends. Unlike other fashion shows, the designers used their own creative control over the show.
The sartorial affair was spearheaded by Art Personas, a group known for creating better possibilities for their clients in the fashion and arts industry.
For the opening of the MFF, designers Jerome Salaya-Ang, Happy Andrada, YAY, John Herrera, Jot Losa and Renan Pacson lead the pack of the Filipino talents.
Salaya-Ang warmed up the atmosphere by bringing out his "Finding Absolem" collection. His pieces were dominated by feminine cuts and floral patterns. Salaya-Ang's collection is about believing six impossible things before breakfast, inspired by the maze of life. Pieces redefine an individual through this captivating palette that highlights a person’s uniqueness and beauty. Jerome Salaya-Ang brings a sense of reformation to the runway.

Known for her unique, complex detailing, masterful use of material and a style that has her personal brand seared on it. Happy Andrada opted to showcase a collection the reinvents nationalism. "Ninuno" was inspired by our rich Philippine heritage. Tribalism fused with contemporary cuts, textures and treatments. The conventional fabrics transform as they take on refreshing new forms. The pieces used weaves from Benguet and T'boli tribe, Pina Abaca, Philippine Dupioni, Abaca Silk, Pina Cotton, intertwined with Neoprene, Chiffon and Power Knit to form riveting pieces that tell a story.

YAY brings elegance and chic of the past and present to the runway. Titled, "Travel Through Time," the collection highlights multipurpose/convertible pieces. The line proves timelessness, and was inspired by the mere essence of evolution. Classical and modernized styles merge into the pieces. Leather and silk fuse together with a playful touch of textured wool and mat layers. Timeless ivory and black colors encompass accents of vibrant red.

John Herrera offers a versatile collection. "Amphibia" was inspired by a revolutionary growth. Rain or shine, the neoprene fabric is perfectly suited for unpredictable weather. Through pieces made of gazaar silk and enthralling laser-cut scale techniques, John Herrera brings a dramatic evolution to the runway.

Jot Losa brings "Pale Beauty" to the catwalk. The collection consists of pieces with shades of white and gray to bring out the ethereal look. It cultivates beauty as it was inspired by the unveiled charm of a woman. A fusion of layers and textures create depth and dimension to the pieces, and bold A-line shapes and structured components form the silhouette.

Renan Pacson brings psychedelia and eccentricity to the runway. "His collection was inspired by Alejandro Jodorowsky’s undying masterpiece, “Santa Sangre.” Harping on being free-spirited with a little edge, these pieces will arouse your senses with its unexpected fusion of fabrics and design elements as the collection takes you on an emotional journey.
