Today’s fashion hits and misses

GO-SEE - Joyce Oreña - The Philippine Star

The new season is here. Keep cool with fall fashion’s hit list. Here’s a rundown on what you should fall in love with this season.

Hit: The footwear of the moment — sneakers. Feet rejoice. Designers have stylized the humble sneaker. Now you can be current without sacrificing comfort.

•Miss: Last year’s go-to pool slides — be it sporty, bejeweled or upgraded — should go to storage for the moment.

•Heel up. Time to add some height and pair them with the season’s must-have knee-length dresses.

•Frenzied color combos. Welcome the season with unconventional fall hues. You will find a kaleidoscope of colors — from sunny yellow to daring orange, wild green, powerful purple, bold blue, dynamic red, deep indigo and wintry pastels. Experiment with unexpected color combinations. Try out these rad combos in shades of browns and grays with orchid and lime, blue and bright pink or neon green, red with deep and hot pink or orange with purple and army green. The adventure starts now. Show your true colors.

•The Sixties are swinging again. The A-line silhouette is flattering for all body types. Expose your legs, put on tights or wear over pants — whichever way is a hit. Get the season swinging with the decade’s past influences, from mini skirts to patent Mary Janes, graphic bobs and pastel colors. Sixties prints also get an update this season. Think Twiggy, Penelope Tree and Jane Birkin. Take your cue from the TV series Mad Men. Do a marathon weekend and get an update of the trend with the latest season if you haven’t done so yet.

•Hit: Wide leg slouchy pants are the way to go. Go for effortlessly chic. They are fluid, versatile and forgiving. Look taller in an instant with the season’s draped trousers.

•Miss: Keep those skinny jeans and limit their use for now.

•Hit: Legs are the new focal point this season. Grab a dress or a skirt with a side slit.

•Miss: No more midriff exposure. Shelve those cropped tops.

•Close-knit. Cozy is it. More is more on the knit department — from sweaters to pullovers, dresses and even pants.  Shapes are oversized and lengths are longer than usual. Go for neutrals on this comfy trend.

•Sportswear as casualwear. This athletic vibe is cool for day. Keep fresh and young with this look.

•Get well-suited for fall. Go for suits with a masculine edge for workwear. Step into the boardroom in a boyfriend-borrowed inspired ensemble and you’ll surely be in command.

•Cool femme. For that feminine vibe, flouncy dresses or skirts are the way to go. The prettiest styles are flouncy, floaty and ultra-feminine.

•Matchy-matchy. Life just got easier. Wear tops and bottoms that are made for each other. Be on trend in a flash.

Get a thrill from the rain. Raincoats have never been this fun and fashionable.

•It’s a wrap. Wrap up with a poncho, a cape or an exaggeratedly sized scarf  almost like a blanket. These are the outerwear of choice this season.

•Play with prints. Geometric, psychedelic, digital mashups are the season’s upbeat prints of choice. The prints this season create a hypnotic effect and optical illusions. Be adventurous.

Leopard is the animal print of choice this season. Go for feminine silhouettes.

•Fairytale nights. The season’s eveningwear is dreamy and imaginative. Now is your time to be a modern princess.

•Accessorize.           Make a statement with fun and quirky accessories.

Happy shopping and enjoy your new season finds!
