If you’ve ever wanted to date a celebrity (and who hasn’t?), then you probably think you’ll need one or all of the following: enough money to buy a country of your own, a top-of-the-line sports car, or looks that’ll easily land you on the front page of Vogue.
For teen queen Kathryn Bernardo however, you’d better have clean, well-manicured nails. “Looking neat and well-groomed is important,” said Kathryn, now the new face of Chic Nail Color. “No amount of makeup or designer clothes can take the place of looking neat. Dirty nails are a turnoff for me!”
Looking fresh-faced as always, Kathryn wore an all-white ensemble with bright pink heels to give her outfit that fun pop of color. Her nails weren’t to be outdone as they were painted a bright shade of turquoise (Chic’s Femme Fatale), with her accent nails coated hot pink (Hit Like A Girl) — just a couple of shades from Chic Nail Color’s Knockout Collection.
Her popularity on both the big and small screens isn’t just what made her the new endorser of this longstanding brand. According to Lulai Alvez, brand manager of Chic Centre, “Kathryn embodies what Chic Nail Color is all about: young, vibrant, stylish, and very much the sensible fashionista.”
It’s clear the brand adores one of the fastest-rising actresses of local media, but what does Kathryn love about Chic?
“Ever since I’ve been a fan of using nail polish,” she says. “I’m very happy to be a part of Chic because I love the quality of the brand and the colors they offer. They have so many to choose from! There are shades for teens, like the bright or pastel colors, but if you want to play it safe they also have nudes.”
On her favorite shade from Chic, Kathryn gushed about Hit Like A Girl, adding “It’s part of the Knockout Collection, which features pinks and blues and other bright colors.”
At the moment, though, the spotlight is on the newest and first set of polishes featuring Kathryn: The Edgy Collection. Best described as “rock chic,” the collection consists of five shades that’ll help release the inner rock star in you: Raven, Mystique, Blair, Shadow, and Angelique. On the collection, Kathryn says, “I like to spice up my look from time to time with an edgy bag or a different makeup palette. Being edgy is about being brave when it comes to trying new things, as well as facing your fears and conquering them.”
When it comes to personal nail care, Kathryn advises, “Always make sure you have clean nails. Your nails, both on your hands and feet, should be clean whether you’re a boy or a girl. Fingernails are actually one of the first things I notice on a guy, aside from the way he dresses.”
When it comes to taking care of your nails, just remember that you can’t create a masterpiece without a proper canvas, so consider your nails your artistic canvas. Here’s a quick, essential guide from Chic to help keep your nails in tiptop form:
• Clean your nails thoroughly. With soap and water, use a nailbrush on them and clean with gentle, circular motions. After drying, moisturize with a hand lotion. When using a nail file, go from corner to corner in one direction of sliding from side to side to not weaken the stress points of the nail’s edge.
• Don’t cut your cuticles. Your cuticles are there to protect your nails from infection. Instead, push them back with an orange stick and apply a cuticle remover.
• If possible, wear gloves when doing household chores to prevent prolonged exposure to chemicals in detergents and cleaning products.
• Improve your health as well as your nails’ by eating foods with high levels of vitamin C, B, D, E, and iron. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water, too.
• Choose nail polish that’s non-toxic with a long-lasting formulation to preserve the natural sheen of your nails while keeping them strong. Chic Nail Color products are free from toxins like formaldehyde, toluene, and dibutyl phthalate (DBP) that are damaging to both your nails and health.
As someone who started using polish before she was even 10 years old, Kathryn is a firm believer that well-manicured nails and nail polish can complete any look: “You don’t have to go to the nail salon every week if you don’t have the time. That’s why there’s Chic, so you can easily do your own nails. You just need two coats and they dry really quickly.”
A total of four collections from Chic, all handpicked by Kathryn herself, will be released, with Edgy and Knockout already available in stores.
Chic Nail Color is available at Watsons, Mercury Drug, SM Supermarkets, Puregold, Landmark, HBC, Robinsons Supermarkets, and department stores nationwide.
