MANILA, Philippines - Nothing spells sexier than a head of wavy or curly locks. Think 1940s and 1950s screen sirens such as Veronica Lake, Elizabeth Taylor, or Marilyn Monroe. These women’s iconic hairstyles gave them an air of mystery and sophistication that made them stars of their era.
Now, you can evoke these classic screen icons’ locks as Gandang Ricky Reyes (GRR) introduces Sexy Curls for 2014.
Hair expert Ricky Reyes got inspired by the screen goddesses of old, and noted how most of them had wavy or curly locks.
“Curly hair was very popular back then because it looked very sexy and sophisticated. It looked very interesting both on screen and in real life,†explains Reyes.
However, styles in those days often involved styling products such as pomade and gel to keep hair in place.
“Aside from the pomade being so hard to wash off, your hairstyle would look too overly done. It’s a little too structured for modern times,†he adds.
This is why he developed the Sexy Curls, those soft, sexy loose waves that will instantly enhance a woman’s features.
While many Filipinas may be afraid to try out curly hair because of the many misconceptions attached to it, Ricky assures that the Sexy Curls are easy to maintain.
“Many people have the misconception that curly hair is very hard to manage. Actually, it’s very easy. You just need the right products. Moreover, you can simply air dry your hair or use a diffuser on your blow dryer,†Reyes points out.
Perhaps, the biggest misconception out there about curly hair is that it makes women look older than they really are.
“I think it’s because a lot of people think curly hair is just about old witches or afros. Actually, curly or wavy hair when done right can make you look younger,†expounds the hair stylist.
The difference between Sexy Curls and other permanent curling services such as the digital perm lies in how the waves are formed.
“The curls we form are bigger and looser. That means it’s less bulky looking than traditional perming services or digital curls,†reveals Reyes.
Sexy Curls work for women of all hair lengths. “Because the curls are looser, the service works for either short or long hair, unlike other perming methods. There’s no worry of the hair looking puffy,†he says.
“Like any hairstyle, curls are actually not one-style-fits-all. Different waves fit different face shapes. For example, if you have an oval or heart-shaped face, curls that go outward look better on you,†he says. “We trained our staff to recognize that.â€
The Sexy Curls service is available at all Gandang Ricky Reyes salons nationwide.
