From bags to artistic riches

“Bayani ni Juan” by Jesus Genotiva is one of top 20 entries in last year’s Freeway Art Bag Design Contest. Freeway is holding year two of its design contest. For details on how to submit entries, visit www.FreewayOnline.com.ph.

MANILA, Philippines - Freeway opens its doors again to artistic individuals with Freeway’s Art Bag Design Contest Year 2. Submission of entries is ongoing until Feb. 15.

The brand proudly showcases Philippine art and culture through innovative gift items such as accessories, watches, coin trays and bags. For this art bag design contest, the two winning designs will be put into production as part of Freeway’s National Artist Collector’s Series 2014 together with the featured National Artist which has yet to be revealed.

Last year’s contest gathered over 240 entries with Christine Sioco’s “Ang Huling Babaylan” and Kevin Roque’s “Fiestas in the Philippines” as grand winners. Their colorful works graced the stores of Freeway nationwide.

The task is to create a design with elements of nationalism, Filipino pride, or art and culture, and submit the original piece online. No need for actual work to be submitted. All approved submissions will be uploaded to Freeway’s Facebook page for voting which is 20 percent of the criteria. Voting ends on Feb. 28.

Non-artists can also participate by voting. They can enjoy looking through the many entries in the gallery and vote for their faves.

The two grand winners will not only see their artworks with their names credited on the hangtags at Freeway stores as part of the National Artist Collector’s Series Fall 2014, but each winning designer will receive cash and gift certificates.
