Joey Mead: Black is badass with class

MANILA, Philippines - This new year, Black Human is in a reflective mood, combining the two natures of humanity — the masculine and the feminine. The brand has recently found Joey Mead in familiar pieces the brand is known for: dark, edgy, and currently androgynous. The campaign “Joey vs. Joey Mead” represents Black Human’s androgynous nature as Joey represents both male and female sexes.

She went from being a video jock for Channel [V] International in Hong Kong in 1996 to becoming a perennial cover girl and TV commercial talent. Having lived and worked in New York, Joey Mead is still a proud Filipina and is thrilled to represent Black Human.

“I’m truly honored to be with a Pinoy franchise,” she says. When asked about how the pieces from the collection fit her, she says that more than how it fits, it is actually how the clothes make her feel. With Black Human, “the clothes make me feel free, comfortable, and myself,” she explains. When it comes to her own personal style, she loves comfort and flow, and also adores edgy, rocker pieces with deconstructed dressing — the kind of fashion Black Human has in their collection. One of Joey’s rules when it comes to style is, “When in doubt, wear black.” It is, after all, the color appropriate for almost all occasions. “Black is badass with class,” Joey adds.

The collection features a plethora of leggings, graphic and deconstructed tops, and basic white tees. Joey’s favorite pieces include the linen Maharaja pants and the embellished leggings. She also likes the loose tops. “It’s not like an ordinary T-shirt. It can be a dress if styled,” she adds.

Joey exudes both masculine and feminine qualities quite well, which counterbalances the boyish tailoring and girlish draped pieces from the collection. She looks a bit of rocker infused with sporty ease that is artfully styled. He looks a bit dapper in well-fit tailored pieces.
