Wrap your creativity around the Year of the Snake

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine STAR and Swatch continue to bring you the annual Chinese New Year competition. This Year of the Snake, it is entitled “Let’s twist, curl and Swatch it!” Participants must submit a wrap-around fashion entry. It can be a belt, necktie, scarf or anything that wraps around the body.

Jerome Lorico, an award-winning Filipino fashion designer, and currently most talked about for being part of Alexander McQueen’s design team, created a neckpiece he calls “Shelter.” Inspired by the shedding of a snake’s skin –– a symbol of renewal, he created a knitted neckpiece with glass orbs. According to Jerome, “It is evidence of the existence of the past and the apparent coming of the future. Man also sheds a part of himself as over the passing of time. As he leaves a part of him behind, he looks forward to a new place for him, a self, a shelter that can protect and define him as a person.” This creation is inspired by the Swatch New Chrono Plastic Grrrr watch.
