Becca’s all-in-one foundation is better than a BB cream

STYLE S.O.S. - The Philippine Star

DEAR RISSA,

I’m not a fan of BB creams because the coverage is not enough for me. What is the best all-in-one foundation you can recommend that conceals blemishes and cares for the skin like a BB cream?

JENNA

I’m not a big fan of foundation simply because I find it too thick, heavy, and unnatural. I always want my makeup to make me look like me, not a performer. Plus, thick foundation is not the most attractive —  it’s unsexy and so not kissable! My current preference is mineral powder; I use Becca Mineral Powder Foundation (available at Adora, Greenbelt 5, Makati). And because I’ve become a big fan of this makeup brand, I decided to give their foundation a try.  It made me realize that I was perhaps missing out on the wonders of foundation all this time! Becca Stick Foundation SPF 30+ (also available at Adora, Greenbelt 5, Makati) is like a BB cream but with better coverage! This foundation evens out the skin tone and effectively conceals blemishes, creating the illusion of flawless skin. The non-powdery formulation goes on smoothly and does not magnify pores and fine lines. It boasts broad spectrum SPF 30+ which protects against over 96 percent of both UVA and UVB rays.  I really love how this foundation also contains antioxidant vitamins A, D, and E, which aid in collagen renewal and assist in the skin’s moisture-holding capacity. The Becca Stick Foundation is such a great multi-tasker it can be used not just all over the face but like an under eye concealer, too! Best of all, this foundation packs powerful coverage but feels lightweight and gives a natural-looking finish.

Scent-sible present: Penhaligon’s Artemesia gives a feel of the royal, old world.

SOMETHING FOR SOMEBODY WHO HAS EVERYTHING

DEAR LUCY,

What can I give a kikay friend who seems to not only have everything but also can afford to buy anything?

LILIANA

A thoughtful present is a gift that keeps on giving. Do not be burdened by the fact that she can buy anything and everything. Pick out something beautiful and for sure it will bring delight. Some suggestions: Penhaligon’s (check out Artemesia and Lavandula, two of my favorite scents) for a feel of the royal, old world. I like how a few spritzes make for a sexy and mysterious scent. Argan Oil is another wonderful gift, Rustan’s has Moroccan Argan Oil and another favorite is L’Oro della Vita Inc. (call Fides at 09156999184). Beautifully packaged soap is another gift that will delight — for that you can go to Dimensione for a lovely selection from Claus Porto. How about a beautiful clutch that is proudly Philippine made? Cura V at Rockwell has a lovely selection, especially the ones by Emi Jorge. Tempur pillows also always make such great gifts. There is a special one for every person. And how about bamboo towels? They are environment-friendly and incredibly soft  (available through Arthur at 09178168794).

Hope I’ve been of help!

HOW TO LOOK GOOD IN GLASSES WITH MAKEUP

HI, REGINA!

I recently started wearing glasses; what kind of makeup will look good?

ANITA

It depends on the type of glasses you wear. If they’re rimless specs, or something close that doesn’t really look too strong or obstructive on your face, you can wear pretty much any makeup you want.

If your glasses are thicker-rimmed, though, or are a statement piece, I would suggest shying away from bold lip colors. Instead, amp up eyes with eyeliner or a soft smoky eye for emphasis. Strong eyes and strong glasses and a bare lip will be a more balanced look. Bold specs and a bold lip may be a little too much. But of course, if you think you can rock red with your geek specs, by all means, do!
