Inspired by muscle cars like the all-power Camaro, Petrol Jeans is authentic, utilitarian denim wear from Europe that dares its wearer to embrace individuality. Rough and rugged, edgy and non-conformist on one hand, sexy and flattering on the other, Petrol lives by a liberating brand philosophy of self-expression. The rust, grease and dirt details that characterize the vintage-themed designs are homage to the dignity and pride that defines heavy manual (yet creative) labor, like restoring classic cars. Petrol takes the power and beauty of the classic muscle car and mixes it with badass modernity to create quality apparel that has universal appeal.
With its “Raw Empowerment Campaign” for the fall/winter 2012 collection, Petrol delivers denim jackets, short-sleeved shirts, shorts and signature denim pants that are all about self-expression. At a fashion show showcasing their latest designs I spotted stained and tattered jeans paired with a fringed deconstructed top — a totally hip and unexpectedly flirty look. The bustier plus skinny-legged dark denim pants and dramatic flowing denim skirt trio is Resident Evil meets Van Helsing in its fierceness and power. The light blue denim jumper and red T-shirt affair accessorized with a plaid men’s shirt and thigh-high denim boots has a fun, don’t-take-things-too-seriously vibe to it. The skintight jeans, striped uneven hemmed blouse with the sporty black crop jacket ensemble with matching suede high-heel boots is rocker chick to the max, a getup worthy of a Fashion Week front-row seat.
And for the men, name it and they have it. Going to a hip-hop concert? Go out banging in Petrol’s denim with red-thread stitching, graphic-designed T-shirt in mustard and a short brown jacket with a mechanic’s belt type of bag hanging nonchalantly around the waist — the look is so “Yo, what’s up, dude!” Up for some skateboarding or some other sporty type of activity? The fatigue-colored jeans paired with a white graphic T-shirt topped with a layer of plaid shirt and dark denim jacket is cool to the hilt. The beanie and blue and black scarf hanging from the pant pocket are just too cute too ignore.
Heading to the hottest dance club in town? The black-on-black denim do finished off with a short dyed denim jacket (for women) and mid-length zip-up dark denim jacket (for men) brings urban chic to the fore. With these styles, Petrol brings fuel to further ignite the exploding business of the denim industry.
I love the unpredictability and out-of-the-box mantra that Petrol stands for — it is fresh, creatively experimental and original. I’ve got to say it is a fabulous way to express one’s self fashionably, the denim way.
