Lifestyle ballet
Celebrating an anniversary is a joyous event and when one lasts 25 years, there’s even more reason to celebrate. Lifestyle Asia has been an original in the luxury niche for as far as I can remember and aims to positively influence the lifestyle of Filipino society. Leafing through the pages, one will notice a variety of interesting topics that show living at its finest with familiar faces that make our society tick.
The classical ballet’s Black Swan was the evening’s theme and everyone came elegantly attired. I can honestly say Filipinas are some of the best dressed in the region with our innate flair.
Maureen Disini seemed to be the most popular designer since she must have dressed at least a dozen of the lovely ladies at the Grand Ballroom of Makati Shangri-La. The fun started with a surprise musical number by Chris Tiu with Migs Zubiri and a performance by Bea Tantoco that brought the house down. Congratulations are in order to the Lifestyle Asia team headed by Anna Sobrepeña, Jerry Tiu and Cheryl Tiu. Looking forward to the next 25 years!

The Philippine Ballet Theatre’s Coppelia started with a doll workshop and a tea party at the Cultural Center’s lobby with vintage china featuring the quintessential cucumber tea sandwich, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and petit fours. It was a great time for ballet enthusiasts to relax and connect with friends before the performance. PBT should be commended for making ballet accessible, understandable and enjoyable to as many people as possible and carrying a tradition to host pre- and post-performance events that offer audiences of all ages the opportunity to participate in fun and interesting activities.
Coppelia is one of the happiest ballet acts, which was first performed in 1870. This version, restaged by PBT artistic director Ron Jaynario, is filled with exuberant, joyous dancing.
