Armani goes Gaga
MANILA, Philippines - If fame were a monster, then it would be a stylishly dressed wonder called Lady Gaga. Her clothes, stage props and hairdos may verge on the outré, since she has absorbed the fashion senses of everyone from Cher to David Bowie to Marilyn Manson, but Lady Gaga has made all those influences her own, securing for herself a special spot in the pop-cultural pantheon. Well, she was born that way.
For her “Born This Way Ball” Asian Tour, Lady Gaga is wearing a selection of custom-designed Giorgio Armani outfits. The tour — which kicked off in Seoul and moved to cities such as Hong Kong and Tokyo — will hit Manila on May 21 and Singapore on May 28.
“Collaborating with Lady Gaga is always an exciting experience for me,” says Giorgio Armani. “I admire the way she uses fashion as a scenic element and as a means to build a character. She is an artist of many talents and great intelligence. Creating stage costumes for her is a stimulating and creative exercise.”
Giorgio Armani began his collaboration with Lady Gaga on the occasion of the 2010 Grammy Awards ceremony, when the artist wore a series of outfits specially designed for her. Subsequently, he dressed her in select looks for the “Monster Ball” tour in 2010, as well as for a number of red carpet events and other special occasions.
In the Philippines, Emporio Armani is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists Inc. (SSI) and is located at Greenbelt 4, Ayala Center.
