From retail to runway

MANILA, Philippines - With the collaboration of some of the country’s top styling teams, upscale lifestyle hub Shangri-La Plaza recently unveiled the highly anticipated holiday season’s top trends and looks in its annual holiday fashion show dubbed “Retail to Runway.”

Held at the mall’s Grand Atrium, Level 2, the sartorial presentation showcased how to select and put together on-trend outfits from a wide selection of separates, statement fall accessories and versatile wardrobe basics from participating brands Accessorize, Anthem, A/X, Bauhaus, Bergamo, Bossini, Celine, CMG, Crossings Department Store, Daniel Hechter, Debenhams, Diesel, Furla, Gap, Izod, K & Co., Kenneth Cole, Mango, Marks & Spencer, Massimo Dutti, Michael Kors, Mico Boutique, M)Phosis, Nautica, Original Penguin, Pab Der Uomo, Raoul, Rustan’s Department Store, The Travel Club, Topshop, Warehouse and Zara.

The fashion preview was innovatively presented in three distinct segments, each showcasing a featured team’s unique interpretation of global style reports via select retail picks from brands included in the specific lineup.

Stylists Ferdi Salvador and John Lozano of the F.A.S.H. team opened the affair with Street Luxe, warming up the ramps with relaxed and fluid pieces that can be worn best in tropical holiday weather. Key trendy pieces such as athletic wear-inspired trousers and maxi dresses in jewel tones and fun prints were reminiscent of 2011’s top runway trends. Spot-on statement accessories such as glitter hand clutches, color-blocked sandals, striped sundresses, and sheer cover-ups followed suit.

Metro magazine’s fashion editor Mela de Luna presented Eclectic Vintage, an eye-catching anthology of casual pieces that played with some of the fashion market’s most popular trends: oriental prints, frills and tassels, lace details, and tribal accents. Brightly hued trousers, multi-colored shirts in ombré washes and patterned leggings were accessorized with printed scarves, utilitarian bags, leather envelope clutches, crocheted bonnets, and dark-toned floppy hats to achieve a sophisticated and full-on fashionable look.

Finally, Mega magazine’s fashion editor Angela Alarcon capped the show with Luxury, a glamorous take on holiday dressing that appropriately fused checks and plaids, digital abstract prints, ombré effects, and tribal-inspired details. Elongated pencil skirts, loose and fluid tops, crisp long-sleeved shirts, and flowing maxi skirts made very sleek and straightforward outfits, while cocktail dresses with draping details and embellished long evening gowns stood out on their own. A lineup of cool-weather outfits put everyone in a holiday mood: printed scarves, cozy sweaters, knitted ponchos, tailored suit jackets, smart blazers, comfy cardigans, and structured trench coats.
