This natural body wash is good for dry skin
Dear Rissa,
I’m 35 years old. My problem is the skin on my body has been feeling very dry lately. I did not change anything in my bathing or skincare regimen. I use a creamy body lotion religiously. I’m just wondering, is my bath soap possibly drying my skin?
Genevieve S.
Dry skin is a common problem. Our skin needs moisture to stay smooth and supple. But the reality is, retaining moisture becomes difficult as we age. (Ouch!) Our skin also loses more moisture in colder weather. My skin has been on the dry side, too, due to the change of weather. It’s good you slather on lotion everyday — oil-based creams are more effective than water-based lotions in trapping moisture. I suggest you avoid using harsh soaps that can dry the skin. Deodorant soaps are particularly very harsh and drying. If you need them, limit their use to areas that develop odor like the armpits and feet.
I recommend that you switch to an ultra hydrating body wash like Malin + Goetz Body Wash (P895 for 8 oz., exclusively available at Adora Department Store, Greenbelt 5, Makati). This body wash blends natural botanical ingredients with an amino acid hydration technology. Amino acids are important natural moisturizing factors for the skin. (Collagen, an ingredient known to keep the skin supple, actually consists of various amino acids.) The Malin + Goetz Body Wash cleanses the skin free of residue without irritating, drying, or stripping the skin unlike traditionally harsh detergents or soaps. Because it not only cleanses but also hydrates, this is an excellent treatment cleanser for dry skin.
And yes, it’s also perfect for all skin types and helps maintain a natural pH balance. It cleanses and purifies even the oiliest skin, removing dirt and oil without stripping the skin of the moisture it needs. For those with dry skin, it thoroughly hydrates and never strips the skin dry. For those with extra sensitive, reactive or eczema prone skin, worry not. Co-founder Matthew Malin suffers from rosacea, seborrhea, eczema, and is allergic to synthetic fragrances. That’s why their products make use of carefully chosen ingredients that are least irritating but most therapeutic for all skin types.
I’ve been using this for a week already and results are just amazing. After just two uses, I already saw remarkable improvement. The skin on my body became softer, more supple, and smoother. What usually takes body lotion two weeks to achieve, Malin + Goetz achieved in just two washes! Dry skin on elbows, knees, and feet cleared up. It even soothed the ingrown hair on my legs! (Wow!) What I noticed most was its gentle yet thorough cleansing powers. We all know how it can be a pain to wash off the sticky residue from deodorants. With other bath soaps, it takes me several washes to get rid of deodorant on the underarms and over-washing the armpits can be very drying to the skin. The Malin + Goetz Body Wash is such an effective yet gentle cleanser that it successfully bid deodorant residue goodbye. After just one wash, the skin on my underarms became incredibly soft, hydrated and residue-free. If it can do that for the driest parts of the body, imagine the miracles it can do for the rest of your skin!
The Malin + Goetz Body Wash is available in three natural plant extracts. Bergamot is known to be antiseptic and promote healing (and if you love Earl Grey Tea, you’ll find this scent amazing). Geranium is equipped with anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties (the refreshing scent is simply addicting). My favorite, eucalyptus, is anti-bacterial and anti-viral; its invigorating scent is the perfect was to start the morning – it helps clear a stuffy nose and wonderfully wakes you up. Just apply the body wash to wet skin and gently work into lather. To indulge your skin, use three capfuls for a foaming bath.

How to get the angelina jolie lips
Dear Lucy,
I have flawless but dry skin and I have yet to find a moisturizer that will not make my skin break out. Any suggestions?
I am half-Korean, so I thankfully have good skin. I can get by with just a dusting of loose powder. What is a nice blush to use? And how do I get the Angelina Jolie lips minus surgery?
Aissa
Try Clinique’s Moisture Surge for dry skin. It works really well. For a nice, natural blush, do get a tube of Becca Beach Tint in either grapefruit or guava. It is wonderful and will give you a schoolgirl’s flush. For lips, keep them moisturized. There is no greater turn-off than dry, chapped lips, especially on a lady. When your lips get dry, treat them with a balm that you leave on for five to 10 minutes. Use a toothbrush to gently slough off dry skin. By then, your lips would be very smooth and kissable. To give the illusion of plump lips without any sting, use Malin+Goetz lip moisturizer. It is one of the best I have ever tried!

Face-To-Face With The Ideal Face
Dear Ms. Tingting,
What makes an ideal face?
Angeline Fernandez
The face is so important. It is the center of the soul. It’s the face that attracts and gives us the ability to befriend people. It is “the physical portal through which we nourish ourselves, breathe, talk, and communicate. The most immediate indicators of health is the skin, bones, and fat of our face and body. A pale cheek might indicate illness.
A perfectly beautiful face has the ideal eye width of three-tenths of the face at the eye’s level, shin length of one-fifth, height of the visible eyeball no more than one-fourteenth of the face.
People like to say, “There’s someone out there who loves ugly — too big a nose, eyes too close together.” Whichever, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
