Facial Care Centre introduces VeinWave

MANILA, Philippines - Facial Care Centre introduces VeinWave, the latest technologically-advanced treatment set to change the face of vein treatments.

Developed by Dr. Brian Newman, a vascular surgeon in the UK, VeinWave is a US-FDA approved treatment that effectively treats and eliminates spider veins, thread veins, cosmetic veins, and even rosacea. It is also used to treat small leg veins including vascular flares. Dr. Newman flew in to Manila recently to give a live demonstration of VeinWave, and answer questions pertaining to the treatment.

How does VeinWave work?

VeinWave utlilizes the process of UTC (Unipolar Thermo-Coagulation). This process makes use of a high-frequency radio (microwave) energy to heat fine blood vessels (veins). This is delivered through an ultra-fine insulated nickel needle causing the vein walls to collapse, thus making it disappear instantly. The ultra-fine needle also allows for greater precision, making treatments more accurate — even in areas deemed hard to treat via traditional vein removal treatments like the nose and cheeks.

Is VeinWave safe?

Dr. Brian Newman explains to Facial Care Centre in-house dermatologist Dr. Shyla Samson-Valdez how to properly hold the VeinWave pen.

Dr. Newman says, “The great thing about VeinWave is that there is little in the way of downtime. There is no risk of infection. There may be some microcrusting and some redness, but these go away. And it never leaves a scar. In terms of real pain, some areas like the side of the nose tend to be a bit uncomfortable because that area is tender.”

How soon can you see results?

Results are quick and instant, especially for small spider veins. Bigger spider veins may require a follow-up session/s, usually spaced four to six weeks apart. One treatment may take 30 minutes, sometimes even less, depending on the size of the veins.

Dr. Newman shares, “The best clinical indicator is when the vein is gone once you treat it. It’s black and white. But sometimes the veins may g,o but it might refill (meaning it might come back). Deep veins tend to be a bit more difficult to get rid of in one go. That’s why it’s best to check how good it looks after a month, two months or even three.”

Are the results permanent?

Properly treated, especially for smaller veins, they do not return. Dr. Newman explains, “Veins going into the nose, they don’t come back. Veins around the sides of the nose, if they’re associated with generalized redness or discoloration, they may come back again seeing as the underlying cause is still there. I tend to see these patients in about two years. If you treat the skin properly you won’t have a problem.”

How does it compare to other vein removal methods?

Dr. Newman says, “I think lasers are good for some veins. But it’s very difficult to treat facial veins, especially those on the sides of the nose and across the cheeks with laser. And it’s very uncomfortable. Laser treatments also cause discoloration plus the downtime is unacceptable. There are also injections. I actually do not agree with injections on the face as these have about a 50-percent failure rate, which is really very high. And they also have various complications. Electrolysis is also used to treat veins, but it causes scarring and that is also unacceptable. So I think at the end of the day, VeinWave is at the top of the tree.”

Who can undergo VeinWave?

Anyone can undergo the treatment. It can be done on any skin type. Dr. Newman points out, “VeinWave can also be used to treat children with spider veins on the face. Children as young as five years old.”
