Here's to an even-toned skin minus the tan lines!

STYLE S.O.S. - Lucy Torres-Gomez, Rissa M. Samson, Tingting Cojuangco -

Dear Rissa,

My daughter will be going to the beach for the Holy Week. My concern is she will be celebrating her debut in four months, and her tan lines will not look so nice as she’s wearing a strapless ball gown which we had made. Please recommend something that will get rid of the bikini strap tan lines on her shoulders.

Mrs. G.

I can very much relate — every time I go to the beach, I come home with the most obvious tan lines. I tan very easily even while just walking on the beach with the highest SPF sunblock (nope, I never sunbathe). To add to that, my tan lines are so stubborn, they seriously last a whole year! Whenever I have a fashion show or photo shoot, I just request the makeup artist to blend the tan lines away with makeup.

A few months ago, I discovered a product that effectively evens out the skin tone. Please try Vaseline Healthy White SPF 24 Triple Lightening lotion. I recently got engaged and although I love being tan, I, too, didn’t want unsightly tan lines to ruin my strapless dress for my wedding this year. I needed something to even out my skin tone. Since I’ve always been a user of Vaseline lotion, I gave the Vaseline Healthy White SPF 24 Triple Lightening variant a try. What I love about it is that it contains SPF24. Evening out the skin tone is pointless if your skin continues to be exposed to the aging and burning effects of the sun. I started last December and today, I swear my tan lines are gone. My skin has evened out not just on my shoulders but on my lower body, too — absolutely no more tan lines from my bikini top and bottom! I never thought it would work, but it did. Do give it a try. I like it so much, it has become my daily body lotion. After all, sun protection is essential every single day —not just for the face but for the body, too!

Three Weddings and a Fashion Dilemma

Dear Lucy,

I’m attending a series of events when I go to the West Coast come June — three weddings, a reunion, and countless little dinners. What do you suggest I bring? How do I maximize my outfits? I only wear berry hued lipstick, it is my trademark. I know you like berry hues, too. Do you have a new find you can share?

Ingrid

Whatever you bring, please bring something that is proudly Pinoy made. We have a wealth of local talents, brimming with creativity and excellence in their craft, and it will be a joy to showcase abroad what we have an abundance of here. Go to Inno Sotto, Cesar Gaupo, Randy Ortiz, Joey Samson, Ivarluski Aseron, Noel Crisostomo. They make clothes you can keep. You still have ample time to have a set of outfits custom made. To maximize, it may be best to stick to outfits in solid colors, these can easily be dressed up or down with a change of accessories. Do not forget to bring cashmere wraps to keep you stylishly warm.

Choose accessories that are bold, they must speak to you first and when you love them enough to wear them with confidence, people will appreciate them more on you.

Celebrate your choices, know your own style. Find your best, most stylish you, and stick to it. Have a beautiful vacation, Ingrid!

The little black dress still a big thing

Dear Ms. Tingting,

Is it alright to wear an all-black dress to a Sunday brunch?

Chloe

When the little black dress was right, there was nothing else to wear in its place. Choose the best material, like crepe and satin, and nothing too tight or too shiny.

Fashion history credits Coco Chanel with inventing the little black dress in 1926. It wasn’t until the 1920s that the black dress became a fashion statement, and not a dress simply for practicality or mourning. The little black dress has been in existence for centuries, from day to night wear, but where it was once an item of solemnity, it is now a sign of power and sensuality.
