MANILA, Philippines - Mega Magazine presents the ninth edition of the “Mega Young Designers Competition” and kicks it up a notch with the Generation Mega: The Young Designers Competition 2011 reality TV show.
Over the course of several weeks, the selected semi-finalists will battle it out for a covetable spot in the Top 8, who will then take part in a grand fashion showdown. Eighteen designers, one big break — who will make the cut? Generation M airs every Monday, starting Nov. 15 at 10 p.m. on ETC.
Over the years noted designers have participated in the competition such as Veejay Floresca, Rajo Laurel, Mich Dulce, Aries Lagat, Ivarluski Aseron and Furne One.
Furne One, currently one of the most successful designers in Dubai, recently returned to Manila after several long years.
Furne One got his first big break in the Philippines. In 1994 he was the first-ever winner of the Mega Magazine’s “Mega Young Designers Competition.” The aim of the competition was to discover talented designers who can define the Filipino aesthetic. Besting other designers, One translated the win to an apprenticeship at the House of Christian Lacroix in Paris.
His whimsical designs and penchant for intricate detailing have found an entranced audience, with the fashionable set snapping up pieces that go as much as $25,000. But far from being a simply Dubai favorite, One has international appeal. He has received invitations to present in the Miami Fashion Week (where he won the Designer’s Choice Award), LA Fashion Week and Berlin Fashion Week. He also holds the distinction of being the only Filipino to receive an invitation to present in the London Fashion Week.
