Three stones from the sun

MANILA, Philippines - Firma — together with Ayala Malls, Moet and Stephanie Zubiri’s Modern Epicurean Kitchen — presents “Triad Reluxe,” which opens on Oct. 22 at Greenbelt 3. The show features the jewelry of designers Kristine Dee, Michelline Syjuco and Paul Syjuco.

The jewelry collection was inspired by the idea of renewable luxury: making new things from the old, showing that jewelry need not necessarily

be shabby to be chic even if certain aspects of its designs were obtained from reclaimed metals or components.

For this show, the artists focus on the spirit of recycling — veering away from the literal derelict aesthetic that it projects, and instead focusing on the creation of stunning jewels, maximizing the characteristics of the reprocessed precious metals.

Michelline Syjuco will focus on creating a collection of jewelry made partly from reclaimed and surplus industrial materials. It should prove

Using reclaimed and recycled precious metals, Paul Syjuco will explore softer shapes and outlines while applying various textural finishes along with a signature infusion of colored stones and diamonds.

Paul says, “I consciously tried to give an air or lightness and positivity in every piece of the collection; making use of elegant flowing motifs to tie everything together. My focus was on really recreating from the materials’ past lives the feel of luxury.”

Kristine Dee, on the other hand, will construct carefully considered flowing forms and pieces that have more use than one. Some earrings will convert to pendants or necklaces, earring drops can be removed to create dramatic studs; allowing for more utility and purpose for the user. Her collection as a whole echoes her focus on sustainability and creating uniquely functional jewelry that remains relevant regardless of seasons.

The theme — reclaimed precious metals and other recycled materials — will definitely spark imagination and intrigue even among the most skeptical of viewers. Luxury, sustainability and recycling are, in fact, words not often used together. However, in the end, the aim is simply to create equally striking and wearable jewelry.

According to the three jewelry artists, this is their commitment to design and how they can contribute to conserving the world’s energy and resources.
