Hydrating the face: Once more, with peeling!

Dear Lucy,

You are right, Cosmelan is some kind of wonderful!  I tried it almost as soon as I finished reading your feature about it in your column and my skin has never looked better! Thank you very much for sharing it with your readers. I am on my second cycle now and if any, my only “complaint” is the peeling that the skin inevitably has to go through before it gets better. I am in the corporate world and with my power suits, I really must wear makeup (even if it is just powder) so that I look polished. What do you put to camouflage the peeling and make powder go on smoothly?

Rosanna

I use Bobbi Brown’s hydrating face cream (available at Rustan’s). Although there are a lot of moisturizers out there, this is the particular one that works best for me. It hydrates my face, but not overly so that my skin becomes oily and susceptible to breakouts. It works as a wonderful base also and will make your powder go on smoothly, and stay invisible. After washing my face, I also use a brightening toner (which goes before the hydrating cream), still from Bobbi Brown.

Bye-Bye Dry Skin

Dear Rissa,

I’m 28 years old and I’m lucky to have pimple-free skin. But even if my skin is maputi and makinis naman, my complexion looks very dull and tired. Even when I put makeup on, my skin looks ashen and pasty. What can I do to make it look glowing?

Sassa

Dull skin can be a result of having dry skin. When you have a lot of flaky dead skin cells on your skin’s surface, it makes the skin appear look dull. Make it a habit to exfoliate once a week with a good face scrub. This gets rid of old dead skin cells and helps reveal the new healthy skin underneath.

I really like this new product from The Body Shop — try the Vitamin C Facial Radiance Powder Mix. Enriched with camu camu berry, renowned as the fruit with the highest content of vitamin C, this intensive professional treatment instantly delivers a natural, glowing radiance. Even if you take your daily multi-vitamins, vitamin C is said to be 20 times more effective in treating skin when topically applied than when you ingest it through food or supplements. It treats the skin instantly and immediately promotes a natural, healthy glow. Vitamin C has also been shown to fight hyperpigmentation by suppressing melanin production, thus giving you an even skin tone and a brighter complexion. It also encourages the growth of collagen which gives skin a firm healthy-looking appearance. Vitamin C further protects the skin from environmental pollutants such as excess sun exposure, pollution, and cigarette smoke. It is an extremely effective antioxidant and serves as your natural defense against free radicals, which are unstable molecules that age the skin.

The Body Shop reports that after using the Vitamin C Facial Radiance Powder Mix, 70 percent of women agreed that their skin was smoother, more radiant, and more even-toned just after 10 short days. And so, I put it to the test. The product makes you feel like your own chemist because the vitamin C comes in its own vial where you press the cap to release the vitamin C powder and it mixes with the serum. That’s topical vitamin C at its freshest! So fresh you have to consume the product within 10 days.

Unlike other vitamin C serums I’ve tried, this one was neither sticky nor did it give an irritating citrus smell. It was incredibly easy to apply and felt great on the skin. As early as my third day, I saw results — it was my boyfriend rather who saw results! Despite lacking sleep the night before (I couldn’t sleep and slept at 6:30 a.m. already!), he said, “Wow, you look so fresh!” I couldn’t believe it — at my worst, he complimented me on my bright, clear, and fresh skin. I did notice a more radiant complexion and my skin felt really smooth. Makeup also looks so much better with healthy glowing skin.
