FitFlop takes a stand against cervical cancer

MANILA, Philippines - As style experts say, fashion and beauty come and go. But when they are joined for a good purpose, a common goal becomes attainable with life-changing results.

This motivated the campaign of award-winning footwear brand FitFlop, which took a stand against cancer in its recent Premium Line styles launch at the Gallery-Greenbelt 5.

Dubbed “Shine,” FitFlop’s grand event empowered women in their battle against cancer. Six inspirational women shared their accomplishments: businesswoman Jo Anne Sy Wong, pediatrician and rural health physician Marilen Dela Rosa, IT manager and pole-dancing teacher Myla Tan, cooking aficionado Mylene Tan, teacher Rhea Quijano Lacson, and exporter and working mom Valerie Maay Jovellanos. The affair also formalized the company’s support of Bravehearts, the information arm of the Cervical Cancer Prevention Network Program and the Cancer Institute Foundation, whose mission is to empower Filipino women against cervical cancer.

A runway show showcased three new Premium Line designs: Rebel (a studded thong sandal), Riata (a snakeskin sandal with buckled back strap) and Walkstar III (another snakeskin slip-on). FitFlop also turned over its cash donation to Bravehearts, which came from the sales of the first three pairs of the limited-edition Rockstar Walkstar, a Swarovski crystal-studded sandal available in only a hundred pairs.

Featured were two of the country’s style icons, former beauty queen Abbygale Arenas de Leon, who is also the ambassador of Bravehearts, and model-actress Angel Aquino, who served as host.

“Doing good, just like looking good, is a must and is always in fashion,” said Fitflop brand manager Melody Nubla.

“Campaigning for cervical cancer awareness indeed never goes out of style. And since FitFlop is all about women and made for them, we are proud to take part in spreading the word about the disease and help advocate such an important women’s issue.”

FitFlop, with its revolutionary Microwobbleboard technology, provides maximum support and added fitness while walking. The brand was awarded an American Podiatric Medical Association seal of approval and recently bagged the 2009 Plus Award for Design Excellence in the wellness category by Footwear Plus magazine.
