Givenchy's It bag lives on... and on
MANILA, Philippines - Talk about a Forever It bag: Givenchy’s signature Nightingale tote was the most popular bag of late 2007 and three years later it’s still alive and kicky.
Spotted on the arms of celebrities from Beyoncé, Ashley Olsen and Nicole Richie to Sienna Miller, Reese Witherspoon and Ciara Ciara, the iconic bag was first introduced by designer Riccardo Tisci into Givenchy’s fall-winter 2006 ready-to-wear collection and proved to be such a hit it’s been remade into various incarnations throughout the seasons (versions have included metallic python handles and antiqued leather).
The secret to the Nightingale’s success is its classic shape, roomy interior, light weight and chic-no-matter-what look, making it the ultimate everyday bag. You can dress it up or down and it still goes with everything. You also have the option of carrying it using the two top handles or slinging it over your shoulder with the removable leather shoulder strap, which is wide for the ultimate comfort.
For Givenchy’s fall 2010 collection, a cabin-sized Nightingale trolley has been created in a grained, crocodile style or shagreen-print leather and neoprene — sure to sing in-store this season. — Therese Jamora-Garceau
