Double vision
Lights. Camera. Fashion.
You’re seated in the coveted front row, and as each masterpiece waltzes down the runway, the pump of each bass from the music is mirrored by each step of the model, and perhaps even your heartbeat.
You are surrounded by minor distractions, a soft buzz of commentaries by fashion critics, and the blinding camera flashes… but you don’t seem to mind. You’re in a fashion high from the genius of a sole creator.
While only one designer rules most fashion royalty around the world, every so often two brilliant minds come together—each with a unique aesthetic to fuse into one brilliant line. Take Italian twosome Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana of Dolce & Gabbana, or New York wild childs Traver Rains and Richie Rich of Heatherette, or Canadian identical twins Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared as examples of successful dynamic duos.
In the recent Philippine Fashion Week Holiday Collection 2010, Sunsilk celebrated their Co-Creations line with a show featuring eight of the country’s noted designers paired off to create their own “fashion co-creation.”
Some pairs were composed of contrasting design philosophies, and others formed more complementary styles—and while this sounds like a Project Runway challenge, there was no drama behind the scenes, just dramatic entrances seen on the runway as a result of perfectly matched designers.
