Beach beauty pops up at Chanel

MANILA, Philippines - Nothing says summer like the beach, especially in the Philippines. So it’s rather fitting that Chanel’s summer 2010 makeup collection, Les Pop-Up De Chanel, is completely inspired by the beach.

Peter Philips, global creative director of Chanel makeup, says that joyful pinks and corals lead Chanel’s carefree and happy summer, accompanied by shimmering golden reflections and a surprising touch of turquoise. This sparkling palette uses all its colors to summon up an ideal summer’s day: an azure-blue sky, a smoldering sun and a beach of fine, white sand — sounds a lot like home to us. Plus these hues work under all kinds of lighting, whether sunbeams, moon rays, candlelight or neon.

The beauty biz looks to Chanel for its trend-setting nail colors, and this season it’s especially pronounced, when sunshine and lazy summer days put nails in the spotlight. As sophisticated as ever, Le Vernis nail polish offers a fresh take on pink and turquoise. Mistral is a soft and natural pink, Nouvelle Vague is an elegant turquoise, while Riviera is a vivid pink, transforming nails into little jewels over tanned skin.

For lips, Rouge Allure, Chanel’s glamorous lipstick line, goes all-out for summer. Radiant and ultra-satiny, it comes in three bold new shades: Super, an intense pink tinged with fuchsia; Genial, an energizing, bold coral; and Darling, a natural and luminous rosy peach.

For youngsters too busy and carefree for lipstick, there’s Gloss Fluo, an ultra-shiny yet sparkle-free texture that sweeps lips with sheer, radiant and daring color, making smiles electric. Laser is a neon pink; Pop, a sunny coral that shimmers under a blue or starry sky; and Bikini Peach is a gold-speckled pink that plays around innocently yet seductively with the light.

For the face, even if you’re covered in protective sunblock, you can still look like a golden goddess with Soleil Tan de Chanel, a duo of bronzing powders that provides a halo of ultra-fine gold flecks to light up naturally tanned, perfectly hydrated skin. Terre D’Or, with its golden peach reflections, gives a sun-kissed look to fair skin tones, while Terre Halee, with its added shades of amber, adapts to darker complexions.
