Spanish designer adds leather to Silk Cocoon
MANILA, Philippines - Silk Cocoon’s Jean Goulbourn and Bea Roxas of Kawayan Madrid introduce an exclusive line of high-quality leather bags by Spanish accessories designer Tissa Fontaneda under her line Co Collections, along with Goulbourn’s latest “Silk & Leather” fashion capsule of clothing.
Fontaneda began in the world of haute couture accessories as an assistant at Daniel Swarovski, and then moved on to work with the Spanish luxury fashion house Loewe where she was in charge of the prototype development department for such collections as Thierry Mugler and Cartier handbags. When Loewe became part of the LVMH group, she also developed and designed belts, gloves, fashion jewelry and shoes for several seasons for Narciso Rodriguez.
She has since independently launched her own accessories line CoCollections in Madrid in 2003, together with young Spanish designer David Sanz. The line will soon be sold in Paris. The combined design talent has resulted in a collection of high end leather bags and accessories that answer the modern woman’s need for quality and clean shapes with a twist.
Designer Goulbourn was inspired to do a complementary collection of fashion items, having used leather before in her hand-woven fabrics – which coincidentally Loewe used in one of their bags a few years back, discovered through Roxas. The collection is made up of individual pieces that have leather accents, from patchwork embroidery to calado, straps and blocking. The blouses and dresses for the modern sophisticate come in both rich and subtle shades, using silk satins, piña silks and velvets – a play on yin and yang, strong and soft, which can be dressed up or down to suit the occasion.
