MANILA, Philippines - After a 10-year hiatus, creative director of Nars cosmetics Francois Nars marks his return to the runway in larger-than-life fashion by leading the makeup direction for Marc Jacobs’ autumn/winter 2009 show. When a famed fashion designer teams with a legendary makeup artist, it definitely results in nothing but perfection.
Paying homage to New York City’s night scene, Nars played with the running theme of the theatrical, creating looks of strong eyes with porcelain skin. Working with over 65 models, Nars also created 65 different looks that went with each model’s given features. “We’ve known each other since the beginning so it was really fun to work with Marc again. I really love what he does,” says Nars.
“We are doing quite an eclectic look” continues Nars. Marc Jacob’s inspiration of diversity came from Nars’ book entitled XRAY. ”Marc wanted to keep that feeling,” says Nars, “the variety of looks, the same way we do the campaigns for Nars.” Overall, Nars deemed the importance of making each girl look beautiful even with the strong looks. According to Nars, “there is a wide variety of color… it’s whatever looks good on the girl” Much like fashion, Nars emphasizes having fun with the makeup for the coming year, despite the time we live in. “It’s a good antidote.”
With lavishly lacquered eyes, Francois Nars once again lives up to his reputation in the cosmetics and fashion industry. With makeup’s influence on any collection’s runway debut, Nars made every fashionista feel like partying with Marc Jacobs. As Nars puts it, “You would want to play with makeup… makeup is a great accessory.”
