The mark of time

Ordinary watches rarely achieve pop culture icon status. Then again, there’s nothing very ordinary about S.T.A.M.P.S., a brand of funky watches that sticks on to anything you could possibly think of.

Thanks to a house party and a bottle of Johnnie Walker, Andreas Schweneker, managing director of Timehouse GmbH, and his friend invented a fun-looking watch, which eventually became a hit all over Europe.

Designed in Germany, each watch is crafted with high-quality durable plastic and comes with a 42 mm by 42 mm watch face and two-year replaceable battery. Just avoid wetting it because it is not waterproof.

Here’s the thing: S.T.A.M.P.S. is more than a watch, a clock, a sticker, design statement or personal accessory. It is all of the above and more. It comes in a single or a pair of clock faces that burst with colors and modern graphics, like an art watch at its finest.

The cool thing about this brand is that the watch is made with a 3MScotch self-adhesive foil. So, these postage stamp-looking pieces can stick on anything without losing its adhesiveness.

“Most watches are worn on your wrist, which is the way it’s always been,” says Schweneker. “S.T.A.M.P.S. is neither a pocket watch nor a wrist watch or wall clock. It has thousands of other uses, not forgetting your own fun.”

If you buy a pair, simply break the double watch face apart. Peel off the adhesive foil on the back and start sticking. Plus, you can either attach it to a wrist strap as long as you clip it into the snapper or watch holder. For a trendier look, attach it to the neck chain or clip it to the hair. Wear it around your waist, too.

Since timing is everything, S.T.A.M.P.S. has tons of cool designs to choose from, perfect for the young ones and young at heart. Girls will love the floral and butterfly designs while boys will dig the pop surrealism or macho-looking ones. Each set comes with interchangeable straps and faces that allow you to accessorize for your ever-changing moods.

“This is an exciting time for us as we introduce a truly innovative concept to the Filipino market,” says Marie Llaguno Quisumbing, president of Timehouse Philippines Enterprises. “We hope that this venture will help set the pace for the brand’s growth worldwide. The entry of S.T.A.M.P.S. in the country signals that it’s now time to change.”

So, when it comes to mixing and matching, the sky is the limit for S.T.A.M.P.S. It is now time to stick and wear, and this trend will definitely make a lasting mark on the fashion map.
