Oil's well that smells well

Dear Tingting,

I would like to ask for help in choosing a brand of body oil. I am looking for a particular scent that I can’t find from those that are available in the supermarket. Please give brand names and where to look for them. I’d like to have some kind of a smell test first. Maybe from there I can find the scent I’ve been looking for.

Candice

Neutrogena Body Oil is so sweet and nice, a light sesame oil so sheer that it practically vanishes into the skin. It has a fresh fragrance to keep you feeling clean all day long. Apply immediately after bathing to damp skin.

Olive Mist Body Oil by The Body Shop is super! Then add Avon original bath oil, America’s favorite bath oil. By adding a tablespoon to your bath, you’ll be instantly relaxed. The light oil leaves skin feeling soft and velvety smooth. Best of all, it locks in much-needed moisture. You should try Lubriderm and Nivea, too.

Want to go high-end? Try Silver Rain by La Prairie, which now comes in limited-edition form. Silver Rain Glistening Body Oil Mist has moisturizing ingredients and protects skin against the effects of dryness; it’s fresh and light, with a woody-floral scent with hints of bergamot, fruity green apple, crushed coriander, vanilla, agarwood and musk. It can be used as an after-bath ritual or as a fragrance by itself. Bobbi Brown Beach Body Oil is a unique, moisturizing body oil that gives skin a sexy sheen as it scents with Bobbi’s best-selling fragrance.

All these you can find in department stores; just ask for assistance.

Style Tips For Big Hips

Dear Rissa,

Rainy season is here and the cooler months are coming. I’ll need jackets to keep me warm, especially since our air-conditioned office gets colder. I’m just very conscious because I have big hips. I’m worried I’ll look bulkier. Do you have any style tips to share? Please help.

Bianca

Nobody thinks their body is perfect, even Hollywood stars and supermodels (especially Hollywood stars and supermodels!). Rather than dwelling on the cruelty of fate, start taking steps to manage the pluses and minuses of your figure with the garments you choose to adorn your body.

To shrink a large bottom, select a jacket that falls past the derriere. Fingertip length is a good guideline. Choose a variety of loosely fitted or flared styles, such as the straight or A-line jacket to camouflage heaviness. Also, opt for jackets with well-shaped shoulders to balance the torso. Details that bring the eye up, like epaulets, can really help. Slash or diagonal pockets can also trim inches off your hips. Make sure to avoid belted waists because it will only make your hips look larger. Lastly, don’t pair your jackets with bold patterns or light colors for skirts or pants. You’ll only draw attention to your lower torso. Remember, dark colors make heavy areas look smaller. Good luck!

Vintage Bag Rescue

Dear Lucy,

My mom has beautiful designer bags but they were not stored properly. They are so pretty but oh-so-damaged. All together they probably cost a fortune but I cannot even use them! The linings are tattered, the chains rusty, the leather moldy and dry. What can I do?

Imelda

Gather your beautiful bags and run to this place along Jupiter Street called Vintage Restore. They repair and restore bags beautifully. Aside from that, they also accept custom orders and they have very pretty designs and great workmanship.

Vintage Restore is located on the 2nd floor of 112 Doña Consolacion Bldg., Jupiter St., Makati, with telephone number 890-4326.
