You and eye: Nice and easy way of applying eyeshadow

STYLE S.O.S. - Lucy Torres-Gomez, Rissa M. Samson, Tingting Cojuangco -
Dear Lucy,

I would like to take flamenco lessons in the school where you go. Can you give me the address please? Also, I love wearing eyeshadow, but the problem is I am hopelessly not talented in terms of application. I have to rely on experts all the time, which can get very expensive and inconvenient. Help!

Kimberly

Yes, please try flamenco! It is a wonderful dance to learn and I’m sure you will fall in love with it as easily as I did. I take lessons at Centro Flamenco, 5th floor, sjg Center, 8463 Rockwell Drive, Kalayaan Avenue corner Don Pedro St., Makati (beside Coco Cabana Grill) with telephone number 751-2243. See you there sometime. About your eyeshadow dilemma ... I was in your shoes once upon a time. The only makeup I knew how to apply properly was lipgloss/lipstick. I was hopeless with the rest. And then I chanced upon Awake Eye Tint Stardom Liquid Eye Color. It is so easy to use (practically foolproof!) and looks so pretty on the eyes that I immediately bought them in three colors (Confetti Green, Cognac, and Champagne). And I can’t wait to get more! All you have to do is shake the bottle, brush on the liquid color, and spread it with a clean fingertip or cotton swab. You can control the intensity by applying less or more. Instantly, your eyes look ready to go to that special party or dinner you’ve been looking forward to. It is a wonderful thing and I so wish I learned of it sooner. Try it yourself!

Getting Rid Of Upper Lip Hair
Dear Rissa,

I have fuzzy hair on my upper lip. It’s embarrassing, but I have no idea as to how to get rid of it safely. I’m afraid I just might give myself a major allergy attack or irritate my skin. Please help.

Angela

There are a lot of ways to get your skin satin smooth and hairless. But for safely removing facial hair on your upper lip, I recommend these three methods.

• Bleaching

What it is:
It lightens the hair color, making facial hair on fair to medium skin tones less noticeable.

Pros:
It’s cheap, easy to do, and lasts at least three weeks or even up to two months. There’s minimal risk of irritating follicles since you’re not yanking out any hairs.

Cons:
It’s not suitable to lighten long or thick upper lip hair or to bleach when skin is dark. You might end up looking like there’s an albino caterpillar on your upper lip! To test for allergy, always do a patch test first before using the product on the entire area. If it stings, wash the bleach off.

Try:
Jolen Creme Bleach (available in all leading department stores and personal care stores) or One Touch Cream Hair Bleach (available at Rustan’s Essenses).

• Cream Depilatory

What it is:
Depilation creams, lotions, gels, and mousses chemically dissolve the hair slightly below the skin’s surface.

Pros:
Practically no ouch factor. Lasts one to four days.

Cons:
Can cause stinging for some people. Can be tricky and messy to use.

Try:
Sally Hansen Cream Hair Removal for Face (available in all leading department stores and personal care stores).

Waxing

What it is:
Involves applying a sticky resin that binds to the hair and then removing it against the direction of hair growth.

Pros:
Completely and cleanly removes unwanted hair, but hair should be 1Ú4" and 1Ú2" long so that the wax can adhere.

Cons:
Method can hurt. Overheated wax can cause severe burns. You also have to allow hair to grow long enough before you can wax it again.

Try:
Go to a reputable salon for waxing treatments. If you plan to do it at home, it’s advisable to have several professional treatments so you can watch the technique. Otherwise, you might find applying and removing wax difficult.

Bottom line of avoiding allergy attacks is you always have to do a small patch test before you apply the product to the entire area. Otherwise your skin may sting and get irritated not just in a small area but also on the entire area above your upper lip! Your fuzzy hair may be gone, but you’re now left with a red mustache of irritated skin.
