Skin fitness starts at 18

Dear Tingting,
What skincare regimen should I observe for my face?
Michelle
Skin fitness starts when youre young. Say 18? Yes! First, you need a skin cleanser if its soap, thats great. Then use an astringent that makes you see black on the cotton after you wipe your face clean youll feel cleaner for sure. At night, before sleeping, use an exfoliator like Retin A, mixed with Obagi Blender or alpha hydroxy acid or topical vitamin C.
I just discovered this cream from Dr. Val Herbosa of Makati Medical Center. Its called Dermo-Collagen Stretch Mark and Wrinkle Repair and Palnitoye Tetra Peptide-3 and Bio Peptide-CL, which tightens the skin and evens out the complexion.

Hi, Rissa!
Im 18 years old and a college student. Im an ordinary T-shirt-and-jeans type of girl. But now that Im 18, I would like to be more girly and wear mini skirts and sleeveless tops. But the problem is, I dont have much confidence wearing short skirts because of my ugly scar, which I got when I was only nine. That scar is now a flat keloid on my right knee. Is there any relatively cheap way to get rid of this scar?
Keisha
According to the Time Home Medical Manual, keloids are excessive growths of scar tissue. This abnormality of the healing process is most common in blacks and others with highly pigmented skin. The condition is believed to be hereditary.
Contrary to what some people think, keloids are unrelated to cancer and are not caused by vitamin deficiency. Also, many people who develop keloids when young are free of them later in life.
Try Contractubex Gel, which is a specific treatment for scars keloidal scars, painful and cosmetically disfiguring scars after an operation, amputation, burn, and accident. It has a softening and smoothing effect on scar tissue. The gel is massaged into the skin or scar tissue daily until its absorbed into the skin. It can also be used for old scars such as yours, but the gel has to take effect overnight under a dressing. Depending on the size of the scar, treatment might be necessary for several weeks. Lastly, as with any product, always make sure to read the enclosed insert before using.
Contractubex Gel is available over the counter at any drugstore.

Dear Lucy,
My daughter has underarm odor. It started when she was in grade two. I let her use roll-on deodorants like Rexona. Back then, I thought she was too young to have body odor. I know your column helps people with hygiene problems, and I would be very grateful if you could help my daughter get rid of her body odor. Is there any medicine that can be used for this problem?
Mary Grace
Proper hygiene is key. Always tell your daughter to wash her underarms thoroughly with antibacterial soap and water, three times throughout the whole day. After each washing, tell her to use a deodorant that agrees with her, something mild but effective. Try Dove, Mistine, or Secret all leave a clean scent that smells bagong ligo, as opposed to the more perfumey ones that call attention to themselves.
