What is proper funeral attire?

What is the proper attire for men and women during a funeral? I find it offensive seeing guests in rugged jeans and T-shirts.

Ideally, during a funeral men would wear more solemn attire befitting the occasion, like barongs. Women should wear simple, tasteful clothes and avoid loud colors.
