Teabags for your eyebags

Dear Lucy,

Please help me get rid of my alarmingly obvious eyebags and dark circles from sleepless nights. I can’t avoid sleeping late because of my school works. Help me, please! What can you suggest as a highly effective cheap cream or any home remedy?

Frances

Puffiness beneath the eyes may be hereditary and although you cannot completely get rid of it, you can treat it. A good eye cream should be part of your beauty regimen, from 25 years old and up. Fluid retention is the main cause of puffy eyes – this is common in the morning as fluid builds up while you sleep. This becomes especially true if you have sinus problems or allergies, or pre-menstrual syndrome. Over-indulgence in alcohol and high-sodium foods are culprits, too. I wish I could say otherwise but really, sleepless nights contribute to dark circles and eyebags. They come with the package. Other than making an effort to sleep early, there is a cream that you can apply to reduce darkness. It is called Cernor, made in Belgium, and directions say it has to be applied twice a day. Locally, it is available at the Belo Medical Group (call its Makati main clinic at 817-7178 or 817-9283). A home remedy for eyebags would be to put cold teabags over your eyes, although I have never tried it yet. Some of the doctors say cold teabags are better, others say lukewarm is best so I am just as confused as you probably are. It might be wise to invest in a good concealer also (try the one from Bobbi Brown, available at Rustan’s) for those days when you really need some quick, albeit temporary, results.
