Health and beauty super foods

Dear Tingting,
What are the best foods for health and beauty?
Egoy

Some of the best foods known for their health (as well as beauty, of course) properties are:

Cooked tomatoes. You may be able to lower your risk of some cancers, including lung and breast cancer, by eating tomatoes which contain high levels of lycopene, a healthy pigment. This compound is more easily absorbed by the body when tomatoes are cooked rather than when eaten raw.

Broccoli and broccoli sprouts. Consuming these foods may reduce your risk of developing colon and breast cancer because they produce the cancer-fighting compound sulforaphane.

Green tea. It’s probably the best beverage you can drink because it is widely believed to protect against many types of cancer thanks to its high levels of polyphenols, powerful antioxidants that may also inhibit tumor growth. As an added benefit, green tea has been linked to increased fat burning, so it may also help you lose weight.

Help For Open Pores
Dear Lucy,
I had pimples way back in high school but they were not a problem then as they didn’t leave scars. Now that I’m in my mid 20s, lots of blackheads and whiteheads keep cropping up. And they leave deep scars and open pores that won’t totally close/ smoothen. Now my face is filled with deep holes, especially around my nose. Do you know of any creams/meds that derm clinics use to close pores and smoothen the face?
Kirsten

I suggest you go see a reputable dermatologist. Dr. Sylvia Huang is very good; you can call her at 722-2660. You need some professionally supervised treatments. Offhand, I would also suggest that you check out the Obagi skincare regimen available exclusively at the Belo Medical Group. it is very effective.

Splitting-Hair Problem
Dear Tita Mary,
What can I do about the forever splitting ends of my hair? I shampoo and condition my hair every other day. I just got my hair cut about three inches shorter and I’m afraid the ends will split again, and then I’ll have to cut it shorter still. Help!
Chitchat

Try this home remedy: Rub a bit of Vaseline on the ends of your hair, since the oil on your scalp does not reach the ends of your hair strands.
