If the shoe does not fit

DEAR MARY,

Shoes with straps or ribbons around the ankle seem to be making a comeback these days. I’m not too tall, and there’s a beautiful pair I want to buy. What do you think?

SHOE CONSCIOUS

Don’t. You have to have long legs to use this type of shoe, unless "I’m not too tall" means that you are at least 5’4". But console yourself, there are gorgeous slip-ons and pumps that make the legs look longer as well as beautiful sandals that look so feminine, especially if your toenails have a bright coat of nail polish. Remember that no matter how beautiful something is, if it doesn’t look good on you, forget about it.

The Rosary Necklace Mystery
DEAR LUCY,

Hi! I saw your husband on tv a couple of times wearing this accessory. It’s a rosary necklace, but I dont think it’s a rosary – it’s smaller and it’s really a hot accessory. I even bought a wardrobe to match that accessory, even if I don’t know where to get it. What shop carries that rosary necklace?

Julius

I get my husband all sorts of things to wear around his neck, and I think what you are referring to is a string of pale blue pearls I bought from the manangs on the beach the last time we were in Boracay (each is bigger than a seed pearl). You can get it there (although the color is quite difficult to find – I wanted to get an extra strand, but there was no more available) or you can go to our reliable Greenhills tiangge. There is a good selection there, peddled by the very charming Muslims, at very attractive prices.

For Oily Face
DEAR TINGTING,

I’m 45 and have an oily face but no pimples. What soap would you advise me to use? I would also like to try some toner that’s alcohol-free, of course. Do I also have to use moisturizers before I sleep? Please suggest local brands only as I am on a tight budget.

CHONA

For soap, use Ivory or Cetaphil. You can find an alcohol-free toner from L’Oreal, available in leading stores. For facial moisturizer, try Celeteque.
