Super summer scenes

my LIPS are SEALED… sometimes… - Maurice Arcache -
Everyone immediately noticed, dahlings, the blue, red and white flags of the tres chic Air France as well as the green and white flags of the posh-y Alabang Country Club Inc. (ACCI) which dominated the ACCI Polo Director’s Cup 2002 held inside breezy Ayala Alabang Village.

The first of a kind event was highlighted by the official announcement of Air France’s new non-stop flight (even on Sundays). Air France will now fly four times weekly direct to that city of lights and love, Paris, beginning this month.

Since March of last year, palanggas, Air France has been operating three non-stop flights a week (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday). It continues to be the only airline that flies–take note–directly to Europe from Manille.

Air France’s super popular and well-respected general manager for the Philippines, tres charmant former Monte Carlo resident Louis Vergeon delivered the good news in his speech. He did this apres el simpatico Fernando Ibazeta, ACCI director for sports and recreation, welcomed all the polo-enthusiast invitees and spectators that Sunday almost a full moon ago.

The ceremonial throw-in by Monsieur Louis Vergeon marked the beginning of the game. Players in blue and red uniforms took their positions on the field. The Red Team–with renowned polo players Ricky Yabut, Jay Constantino, King Yabut, Jun Juban, Tony Garcia and Anthony Villarosa–initially took the lead in goal scores. But only until announcer Jack Clark, positioned high above the grandstand using binoculars, generated more excitement over his microphone during the tie that stayed until the third chucker was finally broken.

The Blue Team–led by world-class player Iñigo Zobel, and with his teammates Anthony Filamor, Jimboy Dulay, Vince Bitong, Sonny Borromeo and Iñigo’s son, Jake–caught up on the fourth chucker and maintained their supremacy until the end of the exciting game.

The exciting match which closed this year’s polo season was definitely well-attended. Loads of spectators came with their entire familles. Even children enjoyed themselves with the fun pony rides available during the match. Other familles laid their picnic mats to watch the game which took place with a sunny and breezy weather.

Don Enrique Zobel, no less, watched his only son and grandson play. Still a super head turner, a preggy Maricris Zobel and her attractive daughters Mercedes and Bianca were there to cheer for Iñigo and Jake.

Some of the hotshots seen watching the fast-paced game were polo enthusiast Greggy and fashion plate Irene Marcos-Araneta; screen idol, Aga Muhlach, who cheered with his group of pals; Air France’s prime asset, that tres eligible workasonic bachelor, Bingo Braganza, the airline’s mega sales manager; Therese Agnese and her French husband, chef Philippe Agnese; plus so many other hot, hot namedroppable polo watchers like them.

Before the awarding of trophies, the Director’s Cup filled with champagne was passed around to Louis Vergeon; ACCI president Francis Jimenez; ACCI director Godofredo Galindez; and to the players, natch. The winners scored 13 against 10 in this exciting high-goal game won by the Blue Team.

Trophies were also awarded to the collectors of Mini Coopers displayed during the event.

The excellent finger-food and cocktails, especially prepared by in-house caterer, the popular Makati Skyline, immediately followed inside the huge tents beside the polo field. Following a French motif, a flutist and a guitarist matched the sunset atmosphere with soothing early evening music. Sporting huge smiles over the success of the game was the club’s super mover and shaker, Southern lady PR manager, Maritess Boot.

Alabang Country Club was definitely the perfect place to end the three-month Polo Season. It was done the French way, no less. Well, with Air France at the helm, how could anything go wrong, n’est ce, pas?
Smart in Boracay
Three days and two nights in Boracay can either transport you to Nirvana or completely leave you bonkers. Either way it’s a great experience, dahlings. And what days and nights they were!

As you know, palanggas, Boracay is paradise on earth. But with Smart as the host of the marvelous Famous! The Voyage Party, well, expect something way out of the ordinary.

Famous: The Voyage Party
is the only traveling party I know of. And believe moi, I’ve known quite a few, dahlings. This party takes guests to all the toniest Philippine spots. Boracay, moi was told, is only the first leg of the voyage. What a great way to open summer, huh?

When we reached Boracay on a Friday, white! white! and more white! was the color of the night. The bash was called White Out and Out-Smarted and as welcomes go, palanggas, it was f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s!

We all woke up for late brunch (moi leaves it to you to figure out what time it was).

The Smart Beach Ball bash kept everyone cheering for their favorite teams. First up was the First Suunto Asia Cup with Smart. Ah, palanggas, it was picture perfect! Colorful hobie cats were highlighted against the azure sea and sky. Competitors from around the globe jetted in just to join in the fun. Our fave local hunk, guapo dude Diether Ocampo, got the third place. This was absolutely marvelous for a first timer, for someone who just got waves beneath his feet!

Apres
, everyone rushed off to the Smart and Time Depot Kayak Race. Out of all that splashing emerged the leaders. First place among the hot dudes were the tandem of Marc Nelson and Tomas Cereneo. Second placers were hunks Troy Montero and Paolo Cabalfin. Dyan Castillejo and Vina Morales came in first among the babes while F gals Angel Aquino and Daphne Oseña in second. Doesn’t everyone love beautiful women with strong toned arms?

Everyone then dug into a huge buffet lunch while watching the two-on-two in Smart Boracay Celebrity Beach Volleyball Tournament. Dyan Castillejo showed us all why she is the best host for her show Sports Unlimited and by bagging a spot with teammates Nonoy Campos and John Urutia.

So it was no surprise, dahlings, that the Zed Amazing Relay Race was also easy as a piece of pie for Dyan. This time she played with working society babe and STAR columnist Leah Puyat and Angelette Calero, Marc Nelson and Mylene Dizon.

Finally at sunset, the most bodacious bods competed for the right to be called Davidoff Cool Water Boracay’s Best Bodies 2002. Tantalizingly exotic Kenjie Marquez walked off as the first placer (men), as did Jamie Lee Huisman, Miss Holland (women). Applause, applause goes to superb host, adorable Jackie Castillejo.

With our adrenaline still pumping, we were only too willing to let loose that night in our most colorful outfits for the Color Me Famous, Color Me Smart party. Then Penshoppe titillated with the hottest summer fashions in their SPF Fashion Show with 20 gorgeous hip young mambers of the MTV/Penshoppe Fashion Council. Even the Mayor of Boracay went off duty to party. So did the owners of most of the Boracay resorts.

Sunday dawned and we all took part in the Beach Clean Up Drive which is part of the "I care! Boracay" campaign. We gathered trash which would otherwise ruin Boracay’s pristine shores.

Alas, dahlings, we finally had dashed back to reality. But not before our last hurrah! We all gathered for the last time for the Beach You Adieu lunch.

Or so we thought, palanggas, but leave it to that PR wiz and party organizer, Keren Pascual who on Wednesday brought us back to Boracay with The Smartly Show off Your Tan bash at Che in Rockwell, the perfect place to see and be seen while flaunting our tans.

Lopez Drive was spruced up to look like a Boracay shoreline. Huge screens showed Boracay footages and hobie cats parked around the area. We all dressed up in our Boracay best. We also felt we were in Boracay as we moved from Station 1 to get drinks, to the mini cabana replicas set up by Waling Waling, to Station 3 where chef Robert Bolanos set up a buffet. .

And just who were the other guests lucky and famous enough to be in Boracay? Naturellement, there were those from the entertainment industry taking a well-deserved break: honey-voiced Jaya; hunk-o-rama brothers two, Troy and KC Montero; Bing "The Beauty" Loyzaga; Talk N’ Text cutie Marvin Agustin; beautiful faces Albert and Liezel Martinez; games winners, Diether Ocampo and Mylene Dizon; Penshoppe boy Cogie Domingo; lovebirds Rica Peralejo and Bernard Palanca; bubbly Sunshine Dizon; and MTV’s newest VJ Derek Ramsey.

Here, there and everywhere was our palangga Pepper Teehankee; Orange’s jazzy couple Nicky Jurado and his wife Tina, as well as Bobet Villaluz; Anna Cruz and Jed Dario; brothers two Jojo and Tonton Manlongat; Angel Aquino; peaches and cream Daphne Oseña; one- of-a-kind New York City gal, Cher Calvin; Sports Unlimited’s Dyan and Marc Nelson; and PDI’s brilliant Marge Enriquez.

Also seen were director Rico Gutierrez and his girlfriend Fiona Lucas; Richmond Lim and the rest of the Time Depot/Suunto gang; the hobie cat groupie of Anna Katigbak, Mark Haswell and Peter Capotosto; and Smart’s Miles Inocentes and Kristine Bacosa.

Models like gene-lucky brother and sister Robby Mananquil and Rissa Mananquil-Samsom; Paolo Paraiso, Ryan Villareal; Pia Cabrera; Nicolette Belle; Valerie de los Santos; Kenjie Marquez; Marco Lobregat; Richard Lozano; Miguel Azcuna; and Brad Turvey all added sweetness to eye candy.

Moi
zoomed in on Louie Ysmael (who set up an eye-catching beach front bar shaped like a boat); MTV’s Rod Nepomuceno; Anton Barretto; Leah Puyat and Angelette Calero; Joy Zapanta; Aye Nuguid; Boracay Terraces’ Steve Tajanglangit; popular Caribo resto owner Edgar Maceda; beach dude Nino Zulueta; Tina Pluquet; and Dish’s first couple EJ and Tess Litton.

Turning heads were power couples Philip and Trish Cu-Unjieng; Beng and Rikki Dee; and Tina and Ricco Ocampo; New York babe Chechel Joson; Penshoppe’s Angelica Suiza; Francis Lumen; Tatler’s Anton San Diego; Eric Quizon; Susan Reyes and Conrad Onglao; Joel Tantoco and his eye-catching lady Cherry; Cecille Ysmael; brilliant Robbie Carmona; Jing Monis; Jonie Feliciano; and Vivian Sarabia.

The Voyage party is the next happening to watch, palanggas. In the meantime, be smart and check out what you can do while waiting with Smart!

Count on a great summer with Air France and Boracay, palanggas.

See you!
