How to keep suede shoes in tiptop shape

Q. Dear Molly, hi there! I really love reading your column. Anyway, how do I clean my shoes that are made of suede? What is the best way to store them? Thanks a lot and more power. – Mayin B.

A.
Brushing the nap of your suede shoes regularly will help keep it looking new. The brushing serves the dual purpose of dislodging any dried-up dirt and dust that may have accumulated and keeping the nap raised rather than looking limp and tired. A commercial cleaning spray used especially for suede shoes should be available in leather- ware stores. Storing your suede shoes in a cool dry place will prevent any moisture build-up or mildew from forming. Cloth shoe bags are also recommended for storing dyed suede shoes. Hope this helps!

Bust Those Sweaty Armpits
Q. Dear Molly, greetings! I just want to ask your help regarding my problem. I hope you know some cure for sweaty armpits. You see this has bothered me for some time now. Those high-powered deodorants advertised on television do not work for me. I hope you know some cure for this. Hoping to hear from you soon. Thank you very much and more power to you. – April Galido

Hi! My problem has been bothering me since high school and now I’m 24 years old with a stable job and still suffering from this very embarrassing situation. My problem is my very dark armpits. I’ve tried using a lot of deodorants but they’ve all failed. In fact, the situation has worsened. I’ve even tried calamansi, but I’ve been using it for a year now and don’t see any sign of improvements. I can’t wear any sleeveless blouses because it is very noticeable. Please help me. I’ll be waiting for your reply. Thanks. – JIERELL

Q.
Hi! I read in your column that rubbing calamansi after taking a bath will help whiten the underarms. I’d like to try it but I don’t know how. Will I let it stay for a few minutes then rinse it off? If so, how many minutes? Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you. – TRISHA

A.
Instead of using deodorants, you should be looking for strong antiperspirants (with higher concentrations of the drying agent, alum) that work double time in keeping the sweatiness at bay. For skin lightening, just rub the calamansi half all over the darkened area and leave on for five minutes before rinsing off. There are also a number of commercial creams that are available on the market that contain lightening agents to help achieve the same goal.

Foods That Are Good For Your Skin
Q. What foods are good for my skin? How can I avoid bad breath? – Hyacinth_19

A.
Healthy skin and hair usually come with the proper intake of vitamin supplements (such as A, C, & E) in our diet, especially if the "right foods" aren’t always taken in. All green leafy vegetables like lettuce, bok choy, cabbage, broccoli, mustard, pechay are important for keeping your skin healthy. Fruits like oranges, cantaloupe, watermelon, strawberries, grapes and apples are great skin-revivers. For bad breath, chew on fresh mint leaves after eating, drink lots of water and brush your teeth and gargle with salt and warm water after a particularly pungent meal. Good luck!
