MANILA, Philippines - Romulo Olazo mounted “Untitled XX”, a solo exhibition of recent paintings at Paseo Gallery in SM Megamall. This marks the artist’s first solo outing after his 40-year retrospective at the Ayala Museum in 2009. The works depart from Olazo’s famed Diaphanous paintings in the use of opaque surfaces coupled with the artist’s sense of form, of employing transparent layers in defining space and thus evoking the artist’s meditative calm. This time, Olazo moves into a more expressionistic gesticulation, using more vibrant and un-monochromatic combinations with the opaque forms.
