Perhaps one of the best ways to strengthen the ties that bring our families together is finding activities that everyone can appreciate, cherish and form memories over.
Every family can be different in what they enjoy --- from elaborate activities like annual trips and tours, or reunions with the extended family, to simple yet memorable moments such as those spent around the dining table together while sharing stories and laughter. However, before smartphones took over our time and attention, the one thing that has united families over the years, sitting comfortably around the sala, was the TV.
Sadly, even that wholesome family time is slipping away as our attention is scattered across multiple screens–it's a culture shift that’s truly worth pondering.
But on a more positive note, I was touched to find out that there were still brands–and influencers, even–that were committed to preserving this fading family value.
Celebrating the country’s newest EyeCon
This was what I found out during an opportunity to work with Skyworth to celebrate the introduction of their Eyecon of Eyecare TV or more specifically, their first and newest brand endorser. This was no other than the lovely Gabbi Garcia, who, upon our very first meeting there, left me with an impression that made me understand why Skyworth chose her to represent EyeCare TV. Her intelligence and heart were truly touching, and as someone who holds family values dearly, I’m excited about how she will be representing Skyworth.
Her role as the Eyecon of Eyecare TV goes beyond endorsing technology. It signifies a visionary trendsetter empowering women and inspiring a generation to see the world differently.
In a world filled with superficial ideals, I’m happy to share that Gabbi stands as a beacon of authenticity and values–she’s a perfect match for Skyworth's commitment to family-centric entertainment.
A love for family values and Filipino heritage
I applaud Skyworth in putting together that unforgettable night. The dual celebration wasn't just about glitz and glamour. It was a heartwarming journey into the essence of family, values, and the unsung heroes in our communities.
It was the general manager of Skyworth Philippines himself, James Sun, who officially welcomed their newest Eyecon, Gabbi, in their contract-signing ceremony. Their newest ambassador, one of the brightest stars of the next generation of Filipino celebrities, was an apt representation of their willingness to connect with the youth and cultivate an affinity for the wholesome and uplifting values that Skyworth sought to promote.
Throughout the event, I learned more about Skyworth’s long-term vision of once again bringing families together inside their own homes through their economic and long-lasting solutions.
It was both admirable and poignant to see Skyworth take on such a task – one that I deeply resonate with – and I hope that more families soon get the chance to try the unique and innovative viewing experiences that they have to offer.
Apart from Skyworth’s advocacy for family values, the event was also an avenue for them to display their passion for Filipino culture.
The event theme itself, Filipiniana, was Skyworth's way to celebrate Filipino heritage, arts, and values. In a way, it was the fresh and exciting fusion of technology with the things that make us proud of who we are that reminded me a bit of the path that tradigital media practitioners like me have taken. While we intend to continue telling stories that matter to us, we also want to improve on the many ways we can tell it.
Celebrating our communities’ heroes
Skyworth and their newest Eyecon of EyeCare TV were also proud to share the spotlight to recognize and honor individuals who made a positive impact on their communities.
The Sky Hero Awards, in collaboration with the dynamic group of Junior Chamber International (JCI), was a beautiful initiative to acknowledge unsung heroes contributing to community rebuilding after the COVID-19 pandemic.
A huge round of applause to the awardees:
1. Agnes S. Begino - A dedicated community social worker
2. Alladin Cuevas - A Barangay Chairman from Tondo, Manila, demonstrating exceptional leadership
3. Dr. Dex Macalintal - A physician from Lipa City, Batangas, promoting physical and mental well-being
4. John Jeffrey M. Dela Rea - A public school teacher focusing on child education
5. Juvien Galano - An advocate of sustainable waste management
6. Marivic Abunales Baston - A pioneer teacher in digital blended education
7. Mary Val Antoinette Urian - A Barangay Councilor from Meycauayan, Bulacan, demonstrating resilience and compassion
8. Suzette A. Prieto - A women's rights advocate and public school teacher
9. Trisha-Marie O. Albeus - An advocate of sustainable mushroom production
10. Wilfredo Dayrit - A salt farmer from Noveleta, Cavite, preserving traditional salt-making practices
These Sky Heroes received not only Skyworth products, cash prizes, and trophies but also the gratitude of their communities. Their stories of hard work, perseverance, and hope further lifted the spirit of positive change sparked by Skyworth.
The Skyworth Endorser Launch and Sky Hero Awards were more than just a glamorous affair. They were a celebration of values, culture, and the heroes who make our communities thrive. I'm honored to have been part of an evening filled with heart and meaning, and I look forward to more opportunities where we can celebrate family, positivity and the wonderful Filipino culture and spirit.
Here’s to a future approached with a renewed vision, and passion for the things we care for!
