Husband-and-wife team able to build new house thanks to 'Violy Bee'
MANILA, Philippines — ABS-CBN’s “My Puhunan: Kaya Mo!” show, hosted by Karen Davila and Migs Bustos, always features inspiring stories on startup companies and home businesses that defy the odds and go on to become big income earners.
But one of its most recent episodes featured two particularly special stories.
One was on Violy and Melvin Palma, a couple, both senior citizens, who own a diner called Violy Bee which, despite its name sounding like a famous fast-food chain, sells, no, not chicken but affordable breakfast meals.
Their meals are surprisingly priced between P7 to P28. It’s a wonder how they are able to pair fried rice with viands and a side of unlimited soup for a P7 meal. The husband-and-wife team started their business in 2007, with their food stall situated in front of their home in Novaliches, Quezon City.
Because of “Violy Bee,” the Palmas were able to build a new home and financially support their family.
The other inspiring story was Eman Ramos’. Ramos, a former delivery rider, now has his own food cart business selling pares and mami. Since pares and mami became a "survival food" for many Filipinos at the height of the pandemic, Eman thought of turning it into a business.
Using the P3,000 investment aid he got from the government, Eman and his wife Mela started selling via a food cart in 2021. They called it Melaman, which is a term coined from combining their names. Melaman now has its own place in Novaliches, Quezon City.
Because of their hard work and perseverance, they have been able to buy a second-hand car. So, now, they can quickly drive their kid, who has a condition called Alpha Thalassemia, to the hospital whenever needed.
“My Puhunan: Kaya Mo!” with Karen Davila and Migs Bustos has its new timeslot every Saturday at 5:00 p.m. on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, news.abs-cbn.com/live, and other ABS-CBN News online platforms.
