MANILA, Philippines — It all started in 1958 when Henry Sy, Sr. opened a humble shoe store in Carriedo, Manila. Six decades later, it is now the biggest retail chain with about 60 shopping malls all over the Philippines.

This year, SM celebrates its anniversary with an #AweSMkickoff party at the SM Mall of Asia. It gathered its partners, tenants, celebrities, and valued stakeholders who have been part of SM’s journey from a one-store operation to one of Southeast Asia’s largest integrated property developers.
“This year is the 60th year of SM and as we very well know, it started from a dream of a 12-year-old Henry Sy who sought a better life for his self, his family and his little community,” said SM Investments Corp. Vice Chairman Tessie Sy-Coson at the event. “The little boy’s dream has evolved into what SM is today, a leader in retail, malls, residences and banking.”
After the grand launch at SM Mall of Asia,mall kick-off events were also held simultaneously at SM Megamall, SM City Clark, SM City Dasmariñas, SM Seaside City Cebu, and SM Lanang Premier. The celebration continues with more exciting and upcoming promotions, deals, and activities from May to October in SM malls nationwide.
