‘Walang Iwanan’ is theme of Bayani Challenge 2014
MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom joins Gawad Kalinga as co-presenter for Bayani Challenge 2014, expected to be the most massive and ambitious showcase of volunteerism that the country has ever seen.
After experiencing unprecedented destruction brought by one tragedy after another such as Super Typhoon Haiyan, the Bohol earthquake, and the Zamboanga siege, Bayani Challenge 2014 will be of a different scale altogether.
With the theme “Walang Iwanan,†this year’s Bayani Challenge will be gathering one million volunteers across 12 provinces —Aklan, Antique, Bohol, Capiz, Cebu, Eastern Samar, Iloilo, Leyte, Negros Occidental, Palawan, Samar, and Zamboanga — to rebuild homes and schools, plant trees, conduct clean-up drives and health missions, and invest time with kids for nine full weeks from April 9 to June 12.
“Globe has always been committed to the promotion of active citizenship through volunteerism and continues to bank on everyone’s innate compassion and desire to help. So we are glad to again be a partner of Gawad Kalinga for this year’s Bayani Challenge and we encourage the public to join our journey towards rebuilding communities via sustainable development,†said Fernando Esguerra, OIC, Globe Corporate Social Responsibility.
Bayani Challenge was started by GK and its partners in 2006 to build relationships and bring out the hero in every one by working together to raise resources and results for underprivileged members of society.
Globe is a staunch supporter of GK for the past 10 years and has helped build the Globe-TM GK Village in Bagong Silang, Caloocan, the organization’s birthplace. Recently, Tattoo, the broadband brand of Globe donated P15 million to build 100 houses at the Tattoo GK Village in Ormoc and to provide residents with livelihood assistance as part of the company’s nation-building initiative called Project Wonderful.
Project Wonderful involves building houses as well as providing food sufficiency, sustainable livelihood through social entrepreneurship, disaster relief, and ICT support, making the partnership with GK more strategic. GK is a non-profit organization dedicated to building communities to end poverty for 5 million families by 2024.
